Guys,

Just spotted a story on ABC Just-In. It's entitled: "Cyber Security Researchers Use The Internet to Hack Into Car. Turn Off Engine As It Drives." I'd paste the url if I could but I can't. Google the title and you will pick it up. If cars go online to that extent, I'll look into fitting an aftermarket computer. It's a sad day when people buy their cars based upon the size of the touchscreen on the dashboard and don't give too much of a rats about vehicle dynamics!!

Lolololololol

Just read this story on my Facebook feed.

Essential control circuits and ECUs should be physically separate from the (online) entertainment circuits. Madness! If it's online, it can be hacked.

Agreed, anything 'net connected is vulnerable. Hard to be avoided as technology rumbles it's way forward, largely un-regulated and un-controlled :)

sounds more like the problem is that they bought a Jeep in the first place.

or

another jeep owner unhappy with there car so Jeep blames a internet hacker for the cars faults.

So you're the passenger in your self drive Ford. It's the replacement for the XR6T so you've had it tuned to run on E85. It's doing the driving because you're on the way home from the Pub on a Friday night. The cops stick the breathalyser up its Zorst and book the CAR for DUI??

Car makers security credentials are terrible, not even google, apple or Microsoft can secure their software and they're trying, car makers haven't even started trying yet!

As mentioned ppl only care about gimmicks without a concern about security and likewise the car manufacturers aren't that keen on throwing tonnes of money into security and are so busy adding tech feature that they aren't building secure in from the ground up. Someone will die and it will probably take that or more to make governments of the public to stand up and sort this out.
