I would think that oil is hotter then coolant, so if thermostat opens at 82 deg oil will be at least more then 90 deg. Now, I'm not sure whether to change thermostat to 82 deg or leave one I installed that's 90 deg, but I would need to adjust the fans then. Would there be any practicular reason why moded car would have lower temp rating thermostat apart from lower temperature of the engine and little beter heat dissipation across intercooler? My intercooler is bigger than standard, so it shouldn't make a difference I guess...Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk

Coolant temps don't get over 88C for my F6X in Townsville (North Qld) regardless of weather or driving but have not tested on a drag strip though.I will add one comparison of sorts was my BA turbo with 4sp auto and all supporting mods tuned by Elite auto in Brisbane. I told Tim (tuner) at the time that I had an 82C thermostat and to adjust the fans to around that which he did NOT and they came on as standard. The car was to at just over 330rwkw (98oct) with 18psi tapering slightly to 16-17psi at reline from memory and AFR's were near on 12.5:1. The car performed brilliantly in Brisbane and down further south in Newcastle with zero problems...Flash forward to moving back to Townsville and the same car now felt very sluggish so I went to the local drags and as a first timer expecting to run what the figures claimed 117mph minimum to 119mph maximum...113mph, 112mph and 112mph!Very disappointed I went my friend and mechanic/tuner locally who's is also friends with owner Paul from Elite to run it on the dyno and listen for any problems and before I told him my mph (he only knew it pulled 337rwkw at Elite) he said that it will run 300rwkw! 307rwkw was the first figure and then 297rwkw on the second run as engine temps had risen (not intake temps)...Now that above was slightly off topic and I was not having a stab at Elite as they were bloody excellent and there service was great but from what I've seen now is that not many tuners run the turbo with 98oct at stoich (always around the 11's) and up here in the North Qld that 92C thermostat is simply to hot as that means the car will sit on or well over 100C in normal driving situations, heatsoaked to death and the engine simply cannot recover from this! Now down south there is a huge difference and tbh I would not have thought so unless I'd seen it myself...hell, we even get worse results again at the Ingham car show which is only 100km's inland north again and I know because my friends shop is the dyno sponsor for that event every year...Did it with my supercharged 8 and it was a lowly V2 vortech on 10psi, 20rwkw down and Pete again guest that figure when he was tuning my car two nights prior!!! As previous poster said the stock fan it set to switch on 98 degrees and a bit hot for my liking. But as you found out to use a cooler thermostat you need to go thru the tune to account for it. On my next coolant change I will be going setting the tune up for 82 degree thermostat.
hpfmnst Member 57 Member For: 9y 9m 8d Posted 29/06/15 07:24 AM Author Share Posted 29/06/15 07:24 AM So bjc, you think I should take out 91 deg thermostat and install 82 degree one. As long as car is not dumping unburnt fuel down the exhaust as it did with 71 deg thermostat I'm happy to do that.Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk

What does your litres per 100 km's register on the dash? My fans run nearly non stop in the hotter months and my old BA turbo had been running like that for years... 82C won't hurt but is find out what temp the fans come on at first... hpfmnst Member 57 Member For: 9y 9m 8d Posted 30/06/15 07:54 AM Author Share Posted 30/06/15 07:54 AM I don't have that software. I've got torque for android and an adapter, but I'm not sure whether I can log temperatures. Since last post, I've been trying to find a place to buy xr6 turbo thermostat and can't find one that opens at 82 deg. There are 91 and 71 deg, but not 82deg. Do you know where I can get one?Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
hpfmnst Member 57 Member For: 9y 9m 8d Posted 30/06/15 12:03 PM Author Share Posted 30/06/15 12:03 PM Sorry, forgot to mention fuel consumption. Lots of times with 71 deg thermostat I was in high 17-18 combined. Now, with 91 deg im around 12-13.Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk

From memory if it doesn't have any available sensors I go to Settings-Manage extra PID's/Sensors-Add predefined set-Ford(Incl PowerStroke) but don't quote me on that!
