Hey,

So I just bought a brand new SCT x4 flash tuner, for now I just wanted to use the generic tunes and get a custom one later when I do some mods.

I went to load a pre-loaded tune onto the car but it says there is none for this vehicle, with the message 'VEHICLE UNSUPPORTED HACCKJ7* contact technical support'.

The car is a completely stock bfmk2 turbo, and the x4 is brand new AU edition.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, can anybody help ?

The units don't come with "generic" tunes - they come blank

The are some who sell generic tunes online, but the overwhelming response from here will be NOT to use one.

The Falcons are not real good for "almost there" type of tunes - individual cars can vary greatly with what's "safe" and the risk is there of some serious damage.

There are some cars that do work well with off the shelf tunes/chips/flashes - their ECU's etc can adjust/cope with variables - the Falcon isn't one of those.

Dyno time and a component tuner is really the only way you're likely to get suggestions from around these parts.

Even more so given the cars age (and kms?) - a decent shop will be able ti identify (and rectify or work around) any issues with the engine that an off the shelf tune can't take into account.

Yep what Rab said. Bang on

If you are going to mod, know your target, do your research, buy the bits

and get them installed and car tuned.

Adding components piece meal will cost you big time in tuning costs.

You just can't just add new bits and give it a hit. Go bang,

There is over a decades R&D on here do some reading and call your

tuner/s and have a chat. imo

Yeh well the plan was to eventually go injectors, hf cat, fuel pump, intercooler, tune.

But that's a bit further in the future, for now I have an x4 doing nothing and I just want a custom tune.

I'll give the tuner a ring, but from what I've heard a custom tune shouldn't be too $$$

What area are you in - am sure there'll be a couple we can point you towards that have a good reputation.

Working out a plan of attack together with the tuner of choice makes things a lot more comfortable.

I'd probably look at a service and going over of the car by the tuner as a first step - would let them work out any niggles or items that need replacing before adding any power into the mix.

I've just done engine oil, gearbox oil and earls turbo feed. The car drives smooth as, and no error codes :)

Im in SA, Heinrich Performance seems to be the choice of most and he's close, so that's who Im planning to use.
