Hi all I am new to the forum and I would like to get some advice from you guys about a ba xr6 turbo that I have. I've had a scan done on the car to find out if my Him module is working turns out that it is now I have to find out why the heater still doesn't work also while doing a scan it came up saying there was a waste gate error could this be why the car doesn't feel like it is boosting very much I will be looking forward to your feedback thanks

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

I had similar issues about a year ago on my BA XR6T and trawled through the forum for what the cause may be. There are one of three things that could be causing this.

1. Wastegate faulty (as you mention).

2. Old coils (one or more) not delivering enough power to spark plugs.

3. Leaking inlet manifold which needed gasket replacement (which was my case).

In my case, it was boosting fine at 2000rpm, but by the time it reached 3500-4000rpm I was getting severe shuddering whilst accelerating, and loss of acceleration as a result. I enjoyed the exhaust pops and crackles when it was doing this though  but more glad to have full power back when it was fixed.

Cheers,

Anthony.

Thanks blueprintme I will keep that in mind when I go and see the mechanic I do need to change the spark plugs cause the car feels like it has a miss occasionally when it idles but what I do want to know do you get thrown back into seat when turbo kicks in cause I don't feel the boost that hard thanks look forward to your response

Heater probabley isnt working due to breaking the plastic shaft that operates the door. Common issue on these vehicles and requires a dash assy removal for the repair unless you are lucky

enough and the drive has popped out ( very unlikely).Take it to someone who knows these car well to check it out.

Hi Hotxrturbo6

Most of the modern turbos nowdays are very smooth and progressive in their operation, boosting as low as 1500rpm. In the case of stock BA models, they provide all their 450Nm tourque from 2000-4500rpm. You should also be able to hear it sucking a lot of air from under the bonnet when accelarating hard from 1500-2000rpm, proof that the turbo is working. The only shove in the back you will get is when you kick back a gear or two and accelerate hard. In gear rolling response may not feel as quick, but trust me, it is against a clock and particularly a normally aspirated Falcon. Once you've fixed your problems and tuned up nicely, fill up a near empty tank with 98oct and you'll notice the difference then.

I also had the same problem JVK mentioned some years ago. Started the car one morning and hear a loud "click" from behind the glove box after which the heater didn't work. Ford charged me $800 to remove and refit the entire dash to install a $30 plastic arm.

Cheers,

Anthony.

Hi Anthony thanks for your input I was wondering if cleaning the turbo boost solenoid will make a big difference I've been doing some research on the forum and a number of people have said that it worked for them

BA turbo boosting at 1500rpm

I dont believe it lol

And yes OP...I clean the boost solenoid every 10,000kms. It's not a huge difference...but usually revs out a little easier
