hello I have just purchased a xr6 turbo and it is fitted with a oil pressure guage I have a feeling it is not reading pressure properly due to sensor location

the sensor is fitted on the turbo oil line between the hard line and the start off the reals braided oil filter line I was told it had a new oil pump fitted to engine when it was rebuilt 20k ago on reciept says new oil pump with atomic gears but the pressure gauge never reads above 30-40 psi and on idle goes to about 10psi I cant remember where the sensor was located on my last xr6 turbo but I am sure it was off the side of the block near oil filter am I correct

will my sensor work the same on the turbo feed line as it would if it was in the engine block

any help would be appreciated can post pics if needed to show what I mean

If the sensor is located between the turbo and the fitting on the block you'll only be seeing the restriction from the orifice in the top of the turbo not true engine oil pressure.

To get an accurate reading id suggest teeing into the port for the oil temp sensor

Edit my f6 is plumbed the same way as your car. It reads low but plugging the turbo feed it pushes the pressure back to true pressure.

No worries. In all reality the actual reading is not critical only keeping track of the range is. If it normally sits at X but drops to Y for a certain rpm you have an issue.
