My ute keeps cutting out and dying, it kind of coughs and splutters and slows down until the motor just stops completely. Loses power while driving along and sometimes cuts out when idlining (at the light etc.)

After this happens, it's hard to restart,

Car isn't standard, has aftermarket turbo etc.

Replaced the fuel pump today, but the bloody thing died on the side of the road on the way home.

Any ideas on what it could be? I've already spent $250 on a new fuel pump today, I don't want this to turn into a mega expensive exercise!

My guess would be coils or throttle body - both common issues with BAs especially hitting 10 yrs now. I've replaced coils on mine. Do all 6 above the spark plugs cos if one has cracked likely more about to go. Genuine coils were about $360 for a set of 6 from memory.

^ Yep :spoton:

See if you can borrow a code reader or hook it up at a mechanics. It may throw a TPS code (Throttle body) or something to do with an 02 sensor/low spark/low fuel pressure etc. Otherwise, I'd be looking into coils or possibly fouled/dead plugs.

Good luck!

Hey mando

Sounds like you have a fuel supply issue, crap I know as you said you just had a punp installed but u might have to give more info to give a better indication of what's exactly wrong

You say it has an aftermarket turbo, so it's had a custom tune at some point then ? Maybe has a dyno graph in the glovebox or something ?

Who fitted the pump and what type of pump ? ( stock replacement or aftermarket hi flow )

From here unless your mechanically handy you will need to take it to somewhere that knows these turbo fords as there might need to be more than just the initial issue coming into play here

What state are you in so we can point you in the direction of a decent performance workshop that knows these cars

My Ba did this when the throttle position sensor was on its way out. It would be fine, then just random lose power before shutting down (same as yours, regardless of driving condition/idle). Then it would be a bitch to restart but once it did it'd be fine again for a while. Just something else to note is eventually it just won't start again.

Hope that helps!
