Jeremy Member 112 Member For: 16y 7m 13d Gender: Male Location: Perth mindaz Posted 16/05/15 09:20 AM Share Posted 16/05/15 09:20 AM I've started noticing a bit of a whine coming from under the car in recent weeks, I thought it may have been the diff... but after reading a few posts on here, it seems the box can also make a whine when the clutch plates start to wear out?Also, I've noticed when giving the car some herbs in performance mode, it wont hold the gears and will upshift early and not ring out the gear.Maybe this is a fail safe because the box knows the clutch plates cant handle it anymore?The car's done 70,xxx kms and IS running 440rwkw, so I'm guessing its prob at that point where it's inevitably going to fail.. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mine flares 4th when cold. I have a oil to air cooler and when I was going to give it a boot full (6 degrees outside) it didn't want nothing to do with third. boost69 Donating Members 737 Member For: 19y 6m 8d Posted 17/05/15 10:33 PM Share Posted 17/05/15 10:33 PM When you say whine...does it do it in every gear?...or does it just do it on a certain gear...and does it just do it while it's cold...and the whine goes away when it warms up?...My BF had a slight whine in second gear...its done this from 60,000kms, it's now done 245,000kms...and the box is still going...Though lately it has started to develop a whine when cold...which goes away when the car warms up...I have also experienced the early upshift in gears (I.e the car not winding out the gears under full load...) and its very frustrating...I know the computer does compensate by changing its shift patterns to protect itself...and I also think there is a "hot mode" on the ZF where it will restrcist kick down and not wind out gears when the oil hits a certain temperature...Just for the record as I have been shopping around on a potential rebuild on a ZF, the absolute cheapest price I have found for a ZF rebuild is $2,800...(and that's supposedly mates rates...)
