Welcome Cary!

Great deal you got yourself!

As said above, mercury silver isn't THAT bad.... it's just a very plain colour for such a nice car! have you considered blood orange, vixen or any other brighter colours?

HgAg will have good resale if that is a concern for you.

Premium sound will not get you an extra cent when it is time to trade but it will help the car sell faster for you.

Forget the premium brakes - shudder is fixed on the production line with the standard brakes and the same comment on resale applies - you won't get any money back for them.

Forget the Ford alarm - do a search of the threads for info. Any aftermarket alarm will serve you better.

The other options are good for protection of your car and will help it to stay looking good for the 12 months. However don't waste money on paint/fabric protection.

18" wheels don't make the ride that much firmer - most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you put them in two cars, one with 17s and the other with 18s if they weren't to look at the tyres first. Also the 18s won't really get you better resale and may even put a buyer off if they think someone who was "sports" minded owned the car.

Welcome Cary and good luck.

Sorry Sixman , but I beg to differ on the "supposed " caliper fix for the standard brakes as this has yet to be proven over time due to this particular development still being very recent.

More importantly the standard anchors on the T are nowhere near commensurate with the rest of the vehicles performance( particularly if modded) and are somewhat inadequate if repeatedly put to the test.

Understanding you wont get a cracker for them on resale , if I had my time

over again it would be premium stoppers all the way.

If you were buying a used T in a few years out of warranty would you take the punt ?

Only time will tell

Cheers

I think that those that aren't in Team HgAg are envious of those of us who are. If I remember correctly most of the quick "T's" happen to be HgAg. As for the cardigan and lamingtons they are only for our secret team meetings. (Not so secret apparently) :buttrock:

Here are a few of the quick cars. APS, 100%, Steve@Redcliff dyno and yours truely just to name 4 that have good 1/4 mile times. There are probably more too.

What other color has 4 or more official sub 13.5 sec 1/4 miles? :buttrock:

Thanx for everybodys comments, you've all been really helpful. I think I'll do without

the premium brakes ... re-sale value is important to me as I'm only going to keep

it for 12 months and I definitely won't get my money back on them. Ditto with

the 18" wheels (don't they look awesome though?). Gotta have to premium sound

though. Will think about the alarm given that there are probably better after-

market. How good is the factory immobiliser ?? Did most of you fit an after-market

alarm ???? Am also wondering about the window tinting ... have most of you gotten

the dealer to tint the windows or is after-market better ???

Also, someone asked me about how the XR6 compares with the WRX ? Well, I've

a MY99 WRX with the APS Sprint kit and the Whiteline Handling pack. My WRX's

performance is awesome and the handling pin-sharp. The wheel alignment is tuned

for performance and I keep the tyres pumped up for handling. A normal WRX is prone to understeer but mine is setup to be, if anything, slightly oversteering. It's

brilliant! The reason why I've decided to change is that I'm finanaially better off

leasing a new car rather than keep my current one. I looked at leasing a new WRX

and test drove one a couple of times. My impressions were not that good. I found

the standard WRX was rather unimpressive in performance and handling to my current one. The finish and refinenment was unquestionably better than the

older pre-2001 models, but as I said, performance wise, sadly lacking (I think I've

been spoilt with my mod'ed car...). Mod'ing a new WRX was also out of the question under the terms of my lease so I went looking for alternative cars. STI's,

350Z's, RX8's were out of the question as they fell into the 'luxury' car tax bracket

and wouldn't make sense lease-wise. So that left the XR6T or something in the Expensive Daewoo range. Expensive Daewoo was ok but they are far too common on the roads. Two

friends have XR6T's and they love them and have had no problems (well, I tell a

little lie ... one of them, somehow blew up his engine on the first day ... they

immediately replaced it and he's had no further problems since). I've driven one

of theirs and a couple of car's at dealers and was impressed. I did notice the

suspension was a little soft but that's to be expected compared to my rock-hard

WRX. And I also found it lacking in the handling dept too. And also, being an auto,

was definitely not as 'involving' as the Rex. However, I still decided on the XR6T for several reasons :

(1) It looks damm awesome !

(2) For a standard car, it's got awsome performance !

(3) The price was extremely attractive !

(3) Much easier to drive in traffic (my Rex hates stop/start traffic)

(4) Handling I'm not worried about. The first thing I'm gonna do is to pump up

the tyres and give it a proper wheel alignment.

It's a very diffferent car to the WRX, it's very had to compare. Both cars are

aimed at different markets. There will be many things I'd miss about my WRX but

the fact was, a new WRX was very unimpressive if left standard. When mod'd, they

are truely awesome and shine most when driven around the twisties. My favourite

'crusies' was the Reefton Spur (200+ corners in a 25km stretch of road!!) and Chum Creek Road near Healesville. Anyway, I really want to give a XR6T a go,

hopefully I won't have any problems. In 12 months, if I'm happy, I might buy

another one.

I notice that there seems to be quite a number of ex-WRX owners here .... I'd like to hear the reasons why you changed to Ford ??

(excuse my rambling, it's probably not very coherent, I didn't realise I had written

so much ....!!)

Geea.  :hrmm:

Envious, who are you kidding! If I wanted BLAND I would have ordered HgAg too. It's style all the way for me.

I get mine in a couple of weeks, then give me time to get a few K on the clock, and there will soon be a phantom T joining that sub 13.5 second club :ta:

I would love to have owned a WRX, just one problem, I couldn't fit in the damn things

yeec> I think you have it sussed pretty well and your comments regarding the differences between the Rex and the T are quite right.

The Ford standard immobiliser is OK and any aftermarket alarm should be compatible with it. Window tint is only aftermarket - either the dealer will arrange and put a mark-up on it or you can source a supplier yourself and save a few bob. The only advantage to having the dealer do it is that it is done before you take delivery and therefore you don't notice the day's wait that is involved for it to dry. Once you pick up your car you will not want to be out of it for a day  Oh, and I suppose if there is a problem with the tint, then the dealer is more likely to be able to get the supplier to fix it as he has the leverage of "quantity" of sales to work with.
