Finally going to do it! Went for a happy lap in a auto (only ever driven manual really) and feel in love! But I had my heart set on a winter white 2013/14... But been reading about rust. I don't want to have to have this stress..My question is was the rust issue sorted by 2013?Can't get a solid answer..Those with mk2s or know for sure could you please tell me?Thanks! The paint on the FG's is super thin everywhere and there's strategic places on the chassis rails and engine bay that aren't painted and will rust as a result of where they are. There are some potential things you can do about it, like proper paint protection over these areas to help seal so that it doesn't oxidise...but never know 100%. No rust anywhere in the engine bay but there is surface rust on some parts of the underbody. But for some reason most likely dollars Ford discontinued it on later builds. Engine bays it's noticeable around the bonnet hinge areas and parts of the under bonnet.but I've seen some ba/bf's that are a lot worse.they rust down where the chassis rails meet the firewall ( from what I've seen anyway) and the bootlid hinge area is bad as well. Fg's don't suffer these problems. If it's any comfort VE commys have some bad areas as well. Just buy one mate you'll bloody love it. It's cheaper to paint the engine bay black. Same as a silver one. They have grey engine bays. It's just a base colour that's applied first. As for the rust on whites, it's more noticeable on the whites. I've been a painter for 18 years now and I was sceptical on buying a falcon exactly like you are. Mine was under a year old when I bought it with 10,000km on it. Had the same signs of rust starting on all the very edges of the bonnet frame and engine bay seams. It only took me 1 night to fix it. Pull the airbox etc out for better access, find yourself some grey coloured Scotch brite and get some deoxidine. Then simply clean the rust of the edges and seams with it. Once you have done that, get a can of Wurth cavity wax. Spray it In all the seams in the engine bay. Let it set for a day. Then wipe off any excess with a rag and some wax and grease remover. As dust and dirt will stick to it. You want it just in the seams. 3 years later it still looks peferct. 1 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/90384-those-with-white-mk2s-and-rust/#findComment-1540399 Share on other sites

To back this up I was looking for an FG for my old boy in November.Looked at quite a few FG's form 08 to 11 none came close to the condition. The closest one was a winter white 2012 with 40,000 on the clock and was the one we brought.Mate, probably others with differing stories but this is mine.Cheers Edited 18/04/15 11:13 AM by GeGe6 1 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/90384-those-with-white-mk2s-and-rust/#findComment-1540402 Share on other sites

It maybe a cost cut measure but my engine bay is spotless,I've pulled everything out of the engine bay that can be removed and gone over it with some of my led detail lights ( though metal halide lights are the best, even concourse paint will show faults under them, been a detailer for yrs) and found nothing.don't quite know what they've mixed with the black but it's definitely not just a base coat and it seems to be doing the job. I've used that wax spray on other cars and it's good stuff.
