I am interested in adding a fuel pump voltage booster/controller to my system, however I don't know what to look for, or purchase. Any advice on the best brands, features, design, Pro's and con's would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Herrods do a booster, some sort of adaption to what they use in the states for other applications.

But really, for all the mucking around, just upgrade the pump. Just my opinion

I am running a KPM 1500 hp module, which uses two Walbro 460's. They should be sufficiently fulfill my needs (750 rwkw), if I supply them with around 18 volts. Hence my request for feedback on the pump controllers.

Geez your onto it fifty-one op comes on asking about voltage boosters and your first response is don't bother and your second is ask your tuner.

Perhaps Op has asked his tuner and the tuner has suggested he seek experience from a larger knowledge base?

I don't understand what's going on with this place of late with members steering other members away when they are asking legit questions.

Its understandable to think his level of build would have the people in his corner to answer those questions and this is not being smart arse this is how it is 99.9% of the time with builds like this.

OP if you have nobody to ease your mind and you want fuel data spot on for your setup speak to Dave at KPM as he is the only one who has pushed one of these pumps it seems as he has a rating for it and scenarios it can be used in.

If adding more volts make sure the entire wiring is looked at again and is up to the task.

If you want a plug and play setup to boost volts then the JMS one that Herrod is selling is the go....maybe get a deal with a spark booster at the same time as stock coils on E85 struggle after 26psi as a rule.

HI PSI is just gathering data atm. He does not seem like someone who needs a tuner to work anything out for him unless maybe they have been there, done that which I doubt many would have with this subject. He seems like he can work it out himself.

I have used an MSD voltage booster for many years. The product is reliable however I found it very demanding on the wiring when wired per manufacturers diagram (continuously on) and draws alot of current. I definately think its best to wire with a relay and hob switch/ecu switch so that the unit is not operating when cruising and will switch on when you need it. Basically the way herrods do it (I think).

Basically you have a two speed pump and it works great. No stress on the wiring and alternator. The only real feature you want on a voltage booster is the ability to vary the pump output voltage from say 15v to 20+voltage and you need to make sure it has the output to power the two pumps in the KPM fuel module. You will find most modules can only power one big pump continuously if you look at the specs.

If you need the fuel I think its the way to go rather than more pumps.

The MSD has a vac/boost reference which when used increases voltage as boost rises. It is of little value in my opinion, not a feature I would look for.

If you're running that sort of power, you've probably got a pretty cluey tuner. I'd ask him tbh..

I will combine my response for the above, to prevent repetition.....

Due to being located in Central Queensland, I do not have access to local performance specialist like many of you. Those that I have contacted in the past, have shown little to no interest in discussing or designing the fuel system. Even with the guarantee of purchasing all parts through them... I contacted a reputable shop three times over a two week period and got fobbed off. I guess that they get hundreds of "time wasters", and that they considered me to be one of them...

My tuner and Dave (KPM) agree that I will be pushing the pumps to their limit with my power goals. As you could well understand, this concerns me somewhat, as any degradation in supply would have catastrophic repercussions. I am uncomfortable with these low safety margins and I am investigation alternative means of creating some head room with the fuel flow.

Two weeks ago, I spent and hour discussing my build with Dave Sheehy, he suggested that I contact KPM to discuss voltage boosters, as he has had little experience with them. Obviously, I contacted KPM and asked them to recommend a booster. Their response did not assist me in any way, and led to the creation of the thread. I will contact Herrod's on Monday to discuss their unit.

Thanks to all that have contributed information and supplied feedback on their experiences. It is, as always greatly appreciated. :respeckt:
