Don't you have like a Stephoscope that you can put on the engine that makes knocking sound so you can hear it above all the background noise?

Kick arse larf to start the day hahahah

Am thinking that if it gets to the stage that you can hear it before the computer does then it's already too late

Whats the massive attraction to screamers??

Who doesn't love a good screamer ;) Honestly, I'm just young and stupid and love the sound of them! As mentioned in my case will also pose as a benefit if the exhaust is too restrictive. Can always plumb it back in down the track when I grow up lol

Not questioning someone who tunes these cars for a living but I would have thought that the frequency of exhaust out a screamer would be different to that detectable by the knock sensor? I would have thought through headphones you may still be able to detect knock over the screamer also?

screamer causes enough noise and vibration for a knock sensor, even when calibrated, to create a voltage which the ecu see's this a knock event and triggers spark retard, no chance of the human ear hearing it, they can be tuned but the tuner is flying blind with the numbers

that's quite interesting ratter, so I imagine its the same for anything with open pipes basically? Top fuel engines, anything that makes your eyeballs shake, my wipper snipper?

Does a top fueler even knock with it's nitro methane mix?, they just hydraulic normally, but doubt you would find a knock sensor on one,

whipper sniper? well a knock sensor is almost as big as the whipper snipers engine and don't think too many people change their advance curves on them do they? but still not as loud as a screamer

Lol, top fuelers was a serious example but given they get pulled down after every run your and the fuel they run your right probably dont even have one. So is this issue just unique to screamers or have you had similar issues on really loud N/A cars for example?

Top fuelers do not have any electronic control at all, they are not allowed to, they are all mechanical, well unless the rules changed in the last couple of years, they do have data loggers butr do not think they are recording too much engine stuff.

Have not done a late model NA with open pipes the see how they go with knock sensors, but if they were loud enough then they would also cause issues, even piston to bore clearances can cause issues
