I just cut a 90mm hole straight through the airbox and through the metal underneath into the area behind the bumper and in front of the wheel arch and fitted some 90mm stormwater pipe between the two. Along with a mandrel bent 3" intake pipe it was one of the best power gain mods I did. Seriously thinking of doing it the G6ET.

Posted 06/03/15 11:09 AM Author Share Posted 06/03/15 11:09 AM I notice a fair bit of cutting being done to fit big intercoolers and piping, are you of the same opinion there. The metal I cut through is not structural it's not chassis rail only thin engine bay material, so to answer your question I would say not.

No point farking up the bay.

From memory it made a noticeboard difference to the intake noise on the car off someone I know.

Posted 06/03/15 10:48 PM Author Share Posted 06/03/15 10:48 PM I didn't notice any difference in the induction noise on the EF just a marked improvement in throttle response and power, the added air seemed to help the extractors. cam and head work perform better which tells me the engine was having an easier time getting the air it needed, even more important on a turbo engine. The hole in the front of the air box still has the possibility of pulling in warm air from the engine bay where as the hole through the bottom pulls cool air from a high pressure area fed by the lower grill opening. Can't have a sensible debate on these things without data

Posted 07/03/15 07:18 AM Author Share Posted 07/03/15 07:18 AM The main reason I did this mod on the EF was when I had the car tuned the tuner did a run with the air box lid lifted and gains were made all through the rev range. I also fitted a K&N pod filter at the same time.

But its your car mate happy drilling. Homer also had a good idea.

Posted 07/03/15 01:16 PM Author Share Posted 07/03/15 01:16 PM Yeh the off the shelf CAI are proven to cost sh*t loads for minimal gains, they look good though. I can do it for next nothing or at least have a go.It appreciate the concern about cutting a hole in a place that's not seen or not structural, but people routinely cut there cars up to fit bigger intercoolers and no one cares.I was just asking if any one had done this to there FG to see if they thought it made a difference. You know the weird thing about this is, while I am actually considering cutting this hole, I would not consider cutting to fit an intercooler so a PW stage 1 would be my choice.
