6500 is about right. I built mine for 4500 myself using a spool kit plus oil pump gears , valve springs plus new plugs, coolant, gaskets, etc.

The engine builder won't really do that much.

All they will do is bore, deck the block, balance rotating assembly, machine crank if going under size or measure and fit 1 thou under bearings. Then check all clearances such as ring end gap etc.

They really over charge in something they do every day for a living.

a patch up job is not a complete rebuild, an engine builder may dummy fit the engine 3 or 4 times before final assembly, there is time involved getting things to the correct thousands of an inch

And I did. I measured all clearances and selected bearings and what not to The required tolerance.

The heads on these things are not known for failure and even the atomic motors run standard heads unless u spend the big dollars for upgraded valves

yep, we all live in a perfect world don't we and the heads do need reconditioning from time to time and should be part of a proper rebuild, a patch up is a patch up, no matter who tries to convince us it's a full rebuild

That's why we have measuring tools like micrometers and such so u yet stuff right the first time.

Heads always will require a reco and 90% of the time it's a visual inspection and a clean if it's in good working order.

Where do you calibrate your eyes for a visual inspection? Heads need more than a visual inspection, especially if your building an engine, very least it should be pressure tested/hardness tested, I've always got my valve seats and valves cut, ideally a new set of valves in a perfect world.
