Dear Car Gods.........I have but one wish.

I wish people would understand that when a light on the Dash comes on, it means that the engine is running well outside its normal parameters and the vehicle should be stopped, the engine turned off and a tow truck called.

Unless you have stripped down, worked on, machined and rebuilt a buttload of engines then there is little chance of you seeing/identifying possible problems and damage that a 2 minute drive with the oil light on will cause.

Find an 'expert' to do this please otherwise in the near future, damage that should have been rectified but was over looked may come back to bite you in the arse.

Actually Car Gods............I heard that you were working on a hand that comes out of the dash and slaps the crap out of the driver when a light comes on............how's that coming along????

yes, running any length of time with a warning light on can lead to an even emptier bank account, turning it off at the fist flicker may have saved you thousands of dollars

What people have to understand is without oil pressure there is nothing to stop metal touching metal.

Oil is a barrier that separates your engines moving parts.

Once there's no oil then metal touches metal and heats up and pretty quickly the surface hardness has come off and turned into a wonderful grinding paste which can then affect other parts that may have otherwise survived.

No oil pressure is very bad, even if it's only seconds.

Remember 2000rpm = crank turning over 33 times per second.

What little oil was in the bearings has soon either burnt off or heated up so much that it's lost its viscosity and run out of the sides due to centrifugal force of the crank spinning.

I will also add that the oil is under high pressure so it actually forces the moving parts apart so that they are actually floating.

But that oil film is very thin.

The oil has to also keep being replaced as it heats up very quickly due to its own friction.

Rubbish, if a red light comes on, it means rev the engine up and drive it as much as you can to see if the red light goes off

Update

Hi torque stripped engine down bottom end is 100% fine. Needs cylinder head replaced bent some valves stems, snapped timing chain and one of the cams threw off its groove n bored into its guide.

Total cost $3500

Still not the best scenario but could have been a lot worse hope she runs good for here on out as I like the vehicle but if any else goes wrong the missus will force a sale

Have you green lighted the top end rebuild yet?

A bf/fg donor could be sourced for that money that have stronger rods amongst other things. 2nd hand engines are obviously an unknown quantity. So is a ba bottom end though...

Yeh gave the go ahead don't wanna mess around anymore, though had a couple lined up if necessary.

Vehicle is a 2005 bf early model though
