Did your car fail on anything else?

I have my roadworthy licence and the only reason you would request something like that is because the car is just rooted all over, or it is actually blowing smoke as it sits there

Seems a bit strange for them to send it to an emissions test if your car is in good condition

But scrap all that and just take it somewhere else

I think (in Vic) you're allowed 1 change to the intake side and 1 change to the exhaust side before flags are raised? Aren't sure if that's a rule of thumb, part of the law or just how far those doing the roadies are generally willing to push it. I think I read it in the Vicroads or EPA info regarding modifications.

eg: Intercoolers that are larger than standard or have a different mounting location or are added where none were originally fitted, are permitted only if no other changes to the intake system have been made. In other words, you may have a pod filter or modified/added intercooler, but not both. Any sensors integral to the original intercooler or intake system must be retrofitted and be in the correct location.

Can't really blame the bloke doing the certificate for not wanting to put his business on the line for something that could be picked up the moment you left his shop

Is pretty much the reason I've kept all the OEM stuff I've replaced - just in case I need to get a RWC in the future.

Soon as a car is tuned it is technically unroadworthy

And yes what rab said is true, there are only a few modifications that are legal,

Some mods are counted as un-roadworthy and that's where engineering certificates can come in to it as well

An FG should pass a roady pretty easily unless it's trashed,

and even then it's likely to be simple things like brakes and suspension bushes

Soon as a car is tuned it is technically unroadworthy

Please elaborate.

This does not sound right.

Surely there is some measurable line that is crossed.

Eg "it no longer meets emission rules"

If it's tuned AND meets emission rules, where is the problem?

The cars in respectable nick only picked diff bushes wiper blades plus the emissions test he must be Expensive Daewoo fan I bet if someone took a ls1 with a exhaust in he'd cum all over it an not pick a thing

In SA, you are not allowed to change the boost from that set by the manufacturer and what's one of the first things that's changed when a car is tuned?

Have heard of more than a few skylines getting defected coz the dumbfark owner brags to the cop about how much boost he's smashing into it.............lol

Because 9 times out of 10 a tune is to increase the power and acceleration of a vehicle

Wonderful things called ADR's get effected when you make your car more powerful

Its not the tuning that stuffs the emission. A stock Falcon with stock injectors and exhaust, but maybe with an intercooler and more boost dialed in should not alter the emissions of the vehicle. The engine will still run closed loop during cruise and idle.

Put different injectors in and its a ? as to whether emissions have gone up or down. Some brands will make it worse. There is a possibility some will make it better. Then factor into dumb ass tuners who have no clue on scaling injectors then its just a big question mark as to what has happened. Although there are trims, bad scalling does not help.

Then add an exhaust, chances are that the cat converter is not up to standard, or in a position where it does not heat up quick enough to reduce start up emissions.

I think modifying the intake does not affect emissions so much but does affect intake noise, this is why it is considered a problem.

So at the end of the day, regulators don't understand it themselves, so they just want you to keep it stock with maybe allowing just an intercooler which would not affect emissions.

If everyone kept there car 'stock' in this country, do you know how much money would be taken out of circulation?

Probably more than the CBA posted as a profit today therefore as long as you're not acting like a goose, cracking shop windows as you drive past, going tutututututu (you know - Habib style) or have fuel pumping out of the exhaust then chances are that you'll be fine when it comes to the 5-0 and emissions.

But, as I said before - and I'll post it up later tonight if it's needed - the rules (in SA) say you can't increase boost and the suspicion of this being done to a vehicle is all a cop needs to send a car for an emissions test - at your expense.

Didn't / doesn't Nizpoo do a mod kit that is guarantee will meet or beat emissions?
