Hi Guys,

I hear that the factory brake callipers have a tendency to flex a tad possibly causing uneven rotor wear.

Is this true? If so, is there a better calliper for the standard rotor?

My XR6T now has 80k's on the clock and the brake (not break) pedal pulses so the rotors are probably warped.

After checking out advice on other threads, I ordered a set of DBA 42107S T3 rotors and Ferodo DS brake pads front and back.

Brad from Vic Performance Parts looked after me. His price was pretty good to start with but he knocked off a bit more when I mentioned that I am a Forum member. Thanks Brad.

Brake shudder can also often come from worn front end bushes, fitting new rotors without cleaning the rust off the hub first and driver behaviour like hitting the brakes hard and sitting with them holding them on once you stop, creating a high spot of pad material transfer

so watch out for all of that! Doesn't sound like yours is too bad though. Stick Brembos on :)

Stever,

Thanks for the heads up on those issues. If the shudder remains after the DBA's I'll have some things to check. Only once or twice have I experienced brake fade and that's probably because I am knocking on the door of geriatricity. IE: I drive a lot saner these days. I used to be a chronic petrol head but I've waned to motoring enthusiast status. Old Expensive Daewoo fans never die - they just swaps to XR6 Turbos?? To put it another way, if the shudder remains, the extra braking ability will be appreciated.

I agonised over the Brembos (I know a Falcon Wrecker who has a few sets of FPV brakes) but the extra cost of 19" rims together with the cost of the brakes ruled it out. They'd be great for track days but my last track days was 1979. Good street brakes will do me.

Another thing that I heard causes brake shudder. Rattle guns torqueing rims after new tyres etc. Heard that one? Where did I read that? It might have been on the autoexpert.com.au web site. Not sure. Anyway, the bottom line was check the torque of your wheel nuts after new tyres because the rattle gun torque might warp your rotors.

Anybody heard that the factory callipers on XR6T's are an issue?

Yes rattle guns can warp rotors very easily, correct torque on a clean Hub is the way to do it

I got my T2's from vic perf parts... Got a good price as well, had no idea they knew this forum though haha

T2's are great for a normal driver, good bite from new

T3's if you drive hard all the time

Yeah I forgot about the rattle gun. I torque mine up too after I get home.

Guys,

So it's off the Wholesale Suspensions for front end bushes?? Superpro are the go I guess? Greetings Senna T. All the best for 2015.

Are there any other symptoms that point to dodgy front end bushes? My car has 80k's on it now. What's the life expectancy for front bushes?

The rubber ones don't last long. Maybe 50 thousand at the upper end? The easier you drive the longer they last though. They can look fine too but you will still get a marked improvement if you change to after market.

I changed from the stock rubber bushes to Supapros because I was getting full on tank slappers under light braking from 100kph.

The shudder has almost completely gone, there maybe just a hint of shudder every now and then.

Didn't notice any extra noise or vibration so pretty happy overall.

There is no better caliper for a std rotor but the next best thing is a upgrade to the PBR performance caliper and 325mm x 32mm disc which is the package like what was fitted to the BA GT range.
