Is it best to take the battery out of the car when charging it? Seen some blow up while charging but they were lipos

Nah no need mate. The later generation chargers are very safe in the way they operate. Did the lipo's not have a temp prob to monitor them?

6amps is enough to maintain if it's in good condition but won't save a battery that's been abused (if flattened and only partially recharged multiple times)

You need to step up to a 10 to 15 amp charger for that sort of work and unless you're using it across multiple vehicles it's not cost effective.

I have my big burtha 20amp charger if there's a way we can orchestrate if your welcome to bring the battery around and I can juice it right up overnight so it's in a full state of charge then you can maintain it with the smaller charger.
