Guys,

Have had violent axle tramp on hard take offs, to the point where I'm too scared to hammer it off the line, as the whole rear end just bangs violently. (usually the left rear end)

Took the car into Ford and they changed all diff bushes and also changed the tailshaft, but it hasn't solved the problem.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with an FG XR6T that has this problem...(well I hope I'm not)...has anyone been able to solve this great mystery of the universe?

I would have thought Ford would have been all over this issue by now...

The soft rubber diff bushes contribute to this also. They distort until they can't any more, Tires start to spin, Bush "relaxes" and start to absorb the load again tires grip. Rinse and repeat

So would violent axle tramp be considered normal for an FG XR6T???

With stock bushes, yes.

I spent an awful lot of time changing and adjusting suspension setup before I threw a gopro under my car and found that what was originally thought to be axle tramp, is as suggested above, the very soft diff bushes allowing the diff to nose up under high torque, lose traction, drop back down and repeat etc. This caused that horrendous thump thump thump. Solution, change the three x diff bushes out with something more robust. If you are running stock power/torque, you can probably get away with the Superpro Comfort bushes. I tried those and failed (750nm torque) and eventually finished with the Superpro competition bushes which does give you a bit more NVH however, it controlled the diff nosing up.

Even after a couple of nice sets of Superpro bushes up the back end of my FG XR6T, the axle tramp came back. Tyre King at Baulkham Hills did a full wheel alignment and it disappeared. I normally knock back the rear wheel alignment, but after that win, I will be more receptive to suggestions that a rear end alignment could be a good thing.

I have urethane bushes in the control blades and the diff.
