OK MS, did you have a chance to have these compared. Let me tell you kids, IF these callipers are comparable to the old ones, and can be retrofitted, but lazy ar5ed Ford can't be bothered retrofitting and just want us pre-Oct 03 owners to put up with machining rotors and unsafe brakes, I will first demand the dealer upgrade them, then contact ACA or similar if they refuse.

IF there is a fix, and Ford aren't retrofitting due to $, their a55 is gonna be smoked by many unhappy customers...

Arn't we talking about the permanent fix here...the new shims? Or have I been on mars for a while? I've have the permanent fix applied and if there is something else that is new I would like to know.

I was informed about these new calipers a few weeks ago when I had brake shudder issues

The person that told me this info said to ring Fords customer care and if I complained enough I'd get them. So I rang Ford and told them that I'd had the shim fix done and that it hasn't fixed the shudder. They then proceeded to tell me that there was no reports of shudder from any other customer that has had the shim recall performed and that they didn't know anything about a redesigned caliper. What a load of sh$t.

So everyone out there that has had the shim recall done and has got shudder back ring Ford's customer care No. and tell them your situation.

BAXR6T. We are talking about a new design of caliper that was introduced some time in October, into the Falcon range in answer to the number of faults with the original calipers fitted to Falcons.

This problem does not affect Premium brake owners, just the sheep that thought that Ford would sell a performance car with a suitable brake package.

In my humble opinion, anyone that buts a T and does not option premium brakes at this stage of the game, knowing what we know, is a banana. A big over-ripe smelly banana. All brown speckled etc. I HATE SOFT BANANAS.

Time to take some more pills.

Yes Andrew, but why should the consumer have to pay out of his/her pocket for Ford's f*ckup? :bigdrool:

There's not a 30 page thread on brake shudder at ls1.com.au, or any other car related forum that I'm aware of, the AU didn't have the problem, so why does BA?

The last thing I am saying is to get the consumer to pay for an upgrade. I am certainly fighting tooth and nail for a fix that is reasonable. And reliable. I don't want to spend any more money on the car than I have to, as it might still be a in-between car for me, and not a long termer.

What I am saying is that if I was ordering today, and had read up on the subjects relating to the pros and cons of the T, I would not hesitate to option the premiums, or ask the dealer for a guarantee that the shudder will not occur, as a minimum.

BTW, ppl, with my last car, I had an issue just before warranty ran out and it was placed on notice at the dealer that if the problem occured again, the warranty would be continued for this fault, due to the fact that the dealer could not find the fault. Don't confuse this policy with similar replacements done by dealers that are not covered out of the warranty period.

If I still have my T and it runs out of warranty, I will be expecting Ford to give me lifetime free rotor machining, due to the fault not being rectified. End of story.

Yep definately a upgraded caliper on the Oct 03 onwards. My T was built Oct 03 and I had the head mechanic of Etheridge Ford come for a test spin with me for the diff noise problem and managed to get alot of info out of him. He told me that they have had massive probs with brake shudder and that I should not experience it as my car was Oct build.

He also told me other common problems that ford say they have had no reports of occuring I.e diff noise at 95-100kmh!

Interesting - FMC obviously gives out info on a need to know basis, including to dealers it seems.

I also had the same comments a couple of weeks back from Ford customer service and the dealer also thought that I would be the first person in Aus to have had a recurrence of the shudder after having the so called permanent fix done, about 6k kms ago (relatively gentle use)!

Anyway, the upshot is that the discs have now been lightly skimmed again this week under warranty!

Dealer had no knowledge of any caliper or pad improvements when asked the question ?
