Do they work the same way as motorcycle airboxes?

I know they make a huge difference to how a big bore sports bike performs.

Motorcycle airboxes are critical to inlet resonance pulses and "tuning" them is a bit of an art

The ones on cars are much the same, the smaller the engine the more it has an effect iirc

Some small 4bangers like excels and mirages gan get aftermarket resonators to increase top end hp when your revving the tits out of them, HOT4's Mag back in the day did a fair wack of testing on typical 4's at the time and right down to cc size results of up to ( wait for it ) 4hp were gained hahaha but when your packing 75hp anyway its not bad lol

The ones on these cars are 1/2 sound reduction and 1/2 to keep inlet pulses in tune

Ok thanks Luke, interesting.

Wouldn't have thought that would really apply to charged engines, but I suppose air is air .

Yeah motorcycle engines are very sensitive to even small airbox changes which I've played with in the past.

J pipes are also hiemholtz resonators but used on the exhaust side to drone, very popular in the us on the big displacement AFM l series gm v8's
