I'm saying for $1000 in hardware;

Xbox

Multi-input switch unit

PAL>NTSC converter (which the Blau etc don't have)

full IR remote control of above

and all sundrys stuff including casings etc

So whatever extra your screens cost that's the extra.

Thanks Aaron will follow your posts and investigations with extreme interest, this could be the most financially resonable car entertainment solution yet, from what I've seen so far. Thanks again for your time posting and keeping us informed

$1000 for DIY to replicate the Blau setup using an Xbox. So $700 less than Blau and a lot of your own creativity.

I have the Xbox to ICC cable made and tested. It works. I'm currently designing a 12v powersupply for the xbox and playing with some integration ideas.

To quickly answer the question posed above.

You need a ICC AUX video plug (about $2 from your local wrecker)

An Xbox Euro SCART RGB lead

A modded Xbox that'll output NTSC to that same connector. Then just arc up the box, set the correct screen resolution and plug in the hybrid cable you make using the above two and all the information found in the formods.com forum thread.

Hi Aaron,

Do you have any more info on the XBox to ICC interface?

I am keen to try this.

Is there an XBox mod chip that you recommend?

Hey Aaron

I've always wondered about this... considering the XBox is a glorified computer motherboard and components, would it not be easier to mod up a connector to feed the car's 12V straight to the motherboard (and regulated for the parts that require a 5V feed etc), thereby bypassing the need for an inverter?

How do you connect to the IR Eye in the ICC??

Is this part of the Blau Interface or is it a seperate thing altogether?

I'm looking at running the Blau Interface & DVD, then adding a VDO SatNav as I think the mapping is far superior to the Blau, just cant work out how you connect the multiple IR's up to the eye in the ICC.

Thanks in advance,

Michael...

The xbox powersupply is what I'm redesigning to run off 12v, but at the same time instead of just making a quickie job of it I'm doing one that can keep teh xbox running during engine cranking, low battery voltage etc and has all the correct standby and switchon delays etc.

The chips for this alone are $25 each when/if you can find them in AU and I'm using about 6 of the buggers. I've got those now. in fact the only thing I need to do is build the 3.3v power good circuit design before feeding the lot into some PCB CAD software.

I've bought a new xbox to be cut up as well, and have the first prototype neatened up a bit since the test run. The 2nd prototype cable will be mucho sexier :)

Hi Aaron,

Another quick question about the xbox install.

My xenium-chipped xbox is sending out an NTSC signal, and I have the euro xbox to scart lead (part number X08-45799) modified so that the ICC plug is in place of the scart plug.

I joined the R, G, and B wires on the scart lead to the appropriate pins on the ICC plug, however I am not sure what scart wire is used for the sync. I tried using pins 19 and 20, and also the two of them joined but the display still looks way out of sync.

What pin shoud I join to the ICC plug to get things working?

Your help is much appreciated.

cheers,

Anthony

I hosed a brand new Late model camira SS 3 nights ago, was quite funny. I think that's why we get tissues in our console, so we can hand them to the crying Commo drivers.

Maybe the tissues are to clean off the slobber from Expensive Daewoo drivers after you show them what Technology from the 20th century can yield...
