Allows the pilot hole to be centred. You can either use a lather or simply clamp the bolt in a drill press chunk then run the chuck down to the vice and clamp the bolt in the vice. Turns out that new year's eve is not the best time to try and get a mobile bolt remover to visit. Who would have thought? I've left messages and see whether anyone wants the job (the next time I phone a technician I won't tell them exactly what the problem is - more chance of a reply I reckon). I like the ideas here. I'll make a drill guide out of what's left of the bolt in case the technician want's one. On the plus side, my wife's quite happy: I couldn't face driving her car in the state it was in so spent an hour or so today cleaning it.I also discovered that Bryan Burt Ford (big Ford dealership in Capalaba, Mansfield and Mt Gravatt) has gone under and the doors are now permanently shut. Got a new bolt out of an xr8 block at the wreckers instead.Oh, and I now own a torque wrench. It looks very pretty and shiny but 24 hours too late.Best,DevEdit: corrected horrendous spelling. Luckily the other blokes ran me to a Repco just before they shut and I got the last packet of four high tensile bolts to suit. Good times!Misreading torque specs FTL. Before he came we needed to remove the radiator and half the intercooler assembly. My next door neighbour Todd is a mechanic (http://tinyurl.com/qeyavvl) so that really helped! We managed to do this leaving the AC condenser/radiator where it was. Danny drilled and jiggled and drilled and jiggled again. Turns out that the bolt had bottomed out (I.e., hit the end of the space in the hole) as the threads has separated over the years with multiple removals. He removed the broken part. Came out straight away on a saturday and only charged $80 (gave him $100 - he was being far too kind already considering he had been here about 90 mins). Then we put in a new bolt, pulley and belt and then returned the radiator and fans back to where they came from.Phew! And now I must go and buy some beer for Todd and say thanks appropriately.
