Fitting another standard one still seems to be taking a chance.

I would not want to be making a warranty claim even if it's possible.

It means you would have suffered a breakdown, need to make a claim, could be knocked back ("It was fitted incorrectly", "You used the wrong coolant" or some other excuse) and are paying for a cooler that you want to replace in 12 months anyway.

Its right mate. I spoke to a lawyer mate and he checked with consumer affairs and ford himself and they would have to warrant the box if it failed. They would try to get out of it but there would be no court that would rule against it. As long as it was installed by a qualified mechanic/transmission specialist and OEM fluid was used, and you have receipts for this. Also you would have to have perfect service history for coolant flushes as well with receipts. He did say they would more than likely fight it, and it could take months to resolve.

I went the route of a PWR one but.

Agree on the peace of mind having the shiny PWR exchanger fitted. I got in on the cheap group buy on here and opted for braided lines.

If you have a B series there might be some dicking around though, I had XFT fit mine and service the box simultaneously, but there's a bracket that doesn't sit at the same spot as FGs so my coolant hoses aren't bolted in at that location. Have done many tens of thousands of kms and no issues with it though.

The out of place bracket in front of the factory exchanger mount, which can be fixed as Arronm did by just screwing a long thread in there (dunno the name...like a bolt with no head IIRC) and extending it out

Agree that the PWR HE kit and Brembos are the best non power related mods done!

I bought a replacement factory one once at about $300 fitted but I'd be buying one every year and even then it might fail. I can't afford random gearbox death.

You would have to stand out the front of the dealership wearing a defamatory sandwich board before they would replace a box 'willingly' after a milkshake failure post warranty. That includes if you swapped the exchanger regularly also.

There's a strategy large organisations and governments use called the 3D's. Deny, Deflect, Delay. Being in Local Govt. myself, they have strategists that work out things like how long people will stay on hold before hanging up. Why? Because it weeds out whingers or those that throw their hands up and walk away. I've seen charts on the ratios of this kinda stuff. The idea being, you only concentrate on the remaining percentage that are prepared to go the whole nine yards. It's just the chit new world of 'pretend' customer service from downsizing/outsourcing.

So in the case of a failed exchanger out of warranty first you will get a bit of 'Deny' mainly 'Deflect' (you haven't done proper maintenance tuned the car etc) then finally if still hanging around, they'll 'Delay' like you won't believe knowing you need the car back quickly. Only those that stand the line and perhaps threaten legal action will they then maybe do something. Again, it's the modern way people. It's all about the money.

I'm currently thinking about replacing the stock heat exchanger for a PWR. It is worth getting the braided lines? And who in Brisbane (prefer Southside) could fit it up for me? I did check with Elite Automotive but they said to replace it with a stock one every 2 years and flush the oil. Cost around $900. I'd rather just spend some extra now than paying $900 every 2 years.

The pwr unit is very easy to fit, a mechanic that can read simple instructions should do it in under an hour... And it will be less than $900 including paying someone to fit it

And braided lines are a personal preference... The replacement lines pwr supply are hydraulic hose... Standard falcon are plastic so yeah it's already a big upgrade

As long as they don't rub on anything they will last a very very long time
