Almost like a pinging noise (it isn't detonation) but more of a metallic lifter noise that got louder with the 4" dump. It is consistent and you can only hear it under load at lower revs around 2.5k upwards when you flatten it and it is building boost. I'm sure it is there in the high revs but with the turbo induction noise and everything else I can't really hear it.I'll try and get some audio but just wanted to know how noisy the engine/head/lifter noise of these cars is? Do the hydraulic lifters get noisy with age or do they run solid lifters? I've had compressor surge before with a small turbo and high boost which made some really weird noises, do the GT3545s ever surge at low revs?Cheers 2 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/89754-xr6t-noisy-head/ Share on other sites

Noise is getting worse and seems to be coming from rear of engine, the speed of the sound suggests it is a single valve/piston or something like that. It sounds too light to be a big end bearing but it could still be one. I want to get the oil analysed to find out if it is bearings or not. How good is an oil analysis for determining this? Oil has been in the motor for about 1800 kms I've tried the screwdriver in the ear trick to see if I can figure out where it is coming from but can't narrow it down, the noise definitely doesn't sound good though, like piston slap. I've tried recording the noise but you just can't hear it over the engine/exhaust noise with my phone. it is loud enough that you can hear it on the free way with your windows down next to the barriers, when on cold start you can hear it at idle if you rev it a little.
