Well time for an update.

I spoke to Dan recently and he made a good point about getting the rotors skimmed before putting the new pads in.

So I dug out the OEM rotor rs and cleaned them up.

I put the rotors in this morning along withe the OEM brake pads and I no longer have the shudder.

Mine does a very similar thing (shudder) with DBA t2 slotted rotors and hpx pads front. Standard Ford rotors and pads rear.

It actually seems to have gotten a lot better over the last few months though and I only notice it if slowing down fairly quickly from high speeds. Usually I just release the brakes and then get back on them if I feel it happening, sometimes that's not an option though.

I've had an r33 gtst with dba4000 slotted and drilled + bendix ultimate (good but very dusty), a 180sx with rda slotted + hpx, vx clubsport r8 with dba4000 slotted and drilled + hpx pads.

The fg is the only car I've had the problem with. My 180sx had all bushes replaced with polyurethane and my Clubsport has had all bushes replaced.

What rotor and what pads are you using?

I might have to test mine out soon and see if the problem is still there.

If it is I'll probably try doing what Ralph said and replace bushes to see if that helps.

Any update? have you checked to see if it is still there?

Marco, have all the brake pads you have used with the T3's had the leading edge chamfered?

The endure already had it from factory. From what I can remember, looking at the project nu and the bendix ultimates, they do too.

Why do you ask?

I was just wondering.

I imagine the bevelled edge would travel over slots in disk better.

Time for an update.

The Bendix did not have the leading edge chamfered.

Nope I did not do it like either. I just left it as is.

I have put the DBA T3s back in along with the Bendix ultimates.

Went for a test drive and have my braking power back. :D

No more shudder.

I've always used bendix ultimates to prevent shudder long term.

I did try Ferodo DS recently with new T3s thinking that they were aggressive enough to keep the disc true. They started to shudder just after a few thousand km. Then without machining I swapped bendix ultimates in without machining of the disc. It took over 5000km to get rid of the shudder but it did true the disc up and no more shudder.

They are dirty pads but they do have that good initial bite which is important for a street pad and keep the discs pretty true.

Good job Marco. This is the combo that I will have to use when I get my discs machined. Bendix Ultimates seem to be the only pad that work with the T3s.

With hindsight I would never have gone slotted rotors and when the day comes for my brembo upgrade I'll be getting plain face rotors. I'll be staying well away from Bremtec as well.

FormulaFg, could you please explain why you would not get slotted rotors?
