I've heard a number of people say leaving the ZF 6sp in drive will give you the best ETs. Is this generally considered fact, or is it debateable? The reason I ask is I took my stock FG to Willowbank last night and Performance mode scored me better ETs (13.1 vs 13.3) and better mph (108 vs 106) than drive mode. Perhaps other variables were at play, but it made me wonder...

Performance mode shifting yourself?

Or performance mode letting the computer shift for you?

Will totally depend on what revs are the best for you to be changing at for the different gears.

Perf mode may let the car rev higher, but if you were better to have changed a little earlier then Drive may have been the better selection (for that gear at least)

(basically it will depend on what change pattern matches the revs best for optimal shifting - depending on your tune)

It will come down to how well you know your car and your abilities.

Manual mode may net you better times but also introduces more chance of a mistake on your part.

But operating it in manual mode is called driving

difference can be if the temperature dropped ,it will run faster times . did you try d mode first or p mode ? my ba goes the fastest on the last run every time ,due the temperature being

colder

Mine is stock tune, and by performance mode I mean the computer shifting, not me shifting. It does seem already from the replies above that drive isn't always the quickest, and the answer is "it depends on conditions and setup"...

If it's tuned, the trans in auto or Perf won't keep up with it and you'll ping the limiter between shifts.

Especially first to second, I'm hitting the shifter around 4500 to allow for the whole thing to happen by around 5500 or so.

When it only had a little tune though, it was fine in auto.

In full auto mode my car ran 12.59 stock. Manual shifting 12.707. Total of 30 passes and trust me u can't beat factory auto shifts in a stock car
