Hi I have a fg xr6 turbo I have got it tuned, a high flow cat, a 1000 hp plazmaman cooler and got rid of the crossover and put the air intake where the battery is. Now I need to change the turbo to get more power.

I have brought a 3540 and was wondering if I can change the turbo myself and drive it to the tuners or do I have to get them to do it cause im changing the turbo. Cause its the same housing as mine as in inlet and outlet I thought I might b able to get away with it.

Hey Vince

I have just done this mod and had no dramas - put a billet wheeled 3540 / 3582 into my FG

Mine was previously tuned a few years ago, for this round of mods in addition to the turbo I changed intercooler (stock to PW) and from std intake to turbo side before driving (off boost) to the tuner

But as always best off checking with your tuner, I discussed in detail with CMS before going ahead

Who will be doing yours and how far do you have to drive?

I only had to travel 20min, other guys on here have gone way further with similar mods untuned

Not saying its 'safe' but can be done

might aswell save yourself the possible issues you could have and put it on a tow truck to get to the tuners just to be safe?? I have towed mine to CMS everytime as its not worth the risk your running..

It will be fine. Obviously if u go boosting everywhere you will you potentially could hurt something, but a small trip to the tuner off boost is ok. Why is everyone so scared to drive these when the computers are so smart they put them selfs into limp modes when something is wrong, but 10 years ago you would wind the boost tee on your skyline until it would break down under boost then back it off a smidgen and call that safe.

Thanks heaps guys. I am only going 25 minutes away but now im thinking of putting a gtx 3582 so I think I will definitely need to get that done at the tuners. Im getting it tuned at blue power camblefield.

Do u guys think its worth putting a gtx 3582 in or just put a 3540 in?
