Ive run ford mineral 15w-40, 5w-40 synthetic havoline, nulon 10w-40 full syn, 10w-40 penrite racing and 15w-40 semi syn penrite and never had a single noise period. I run the penrite racing 10w-40 exclusively know and its as quiet as a mouse.

I guess everyone has their own reasoning and justifications. All I know the ford engineers have specified a certain grade of oil. I've had Agee of these things apart, and ican tell you the tolerance leave slot to be desired.

Ill give an example. If Ferrari asks for a 0 whatever .. Would you listen to your tuner if he specified a 20w-60 ????

Cheers

What oil you run Jimmy? I run the Nulon 10w-40 and have spoken with the nulon tech guys a few times and they recommend I step up to the 15-50 for the circuit days I do, so will be doing that before the next one.

I change under every 5000km, or for every track day. Oil is cheap.

I never liked nulon oils ,also you will find it hard to find (15w-50 ) most shops do not stock it . I just use penrite racing 15-50 but next time will get the even heavier 60 oil . mine is a old

ba engine with 110,000 klm on the clock

oils are like cars everyone likes one brand more than the other . lol oil is oil as long as you change it regularly it will be fine no mater what brand you use

I'm running pen rite racing 15-50

I'm just more curious as to what the argument is about running a lighter oil in the barra. What the logic is?

I'd be more inclined to listen to a"tuner's" recommendation if he'd actually built a barra or 10.... Not just tuning

As I stated before, tolerances in the ol barra leave alot to be desired. A heavier weight oil can only aid..not hinder.

You've got to remember that the 0w40 and a 10w40 are the same weight at normal operating temps. A 0w is actually closer to the 40 requirement that the engineers who design the vehicle want at operating temp.

Running a higher end number is if you flog it enough that the higher operating temp you have makes that higher number act the same as say a 40 at normal operating temp.

So generally the first number isn't going to make a huge difference, but the quality and brand can.

Oil is bloody hard to get right and each to their own really. I run a 5w40 and no issues at all.

my oil pressure dropped right down to about 5 psi after puling in from every powercruise event . so now that it is getting hotter I will up the oil viscosity so that I do not have the same

problems . it is not a daily driven car ,only weekends

Make sure your oil pressure reading is accurate though. I'm dubious on mine as it's taken from a sandwhich plate under the oil filter.

Anyone able to confirm if this would be an accurate location to take readings from as compared to what's actually up in the pump?

Must say the common theme seems to be people running heavier springs too. I do remember Brad from Atomic telling me something about that.
