Can only speak from experience myself but I run Castrol Edge 0w-40 as used by my tuner XFT for about 175,000km now and I flog my car hard, regularly, with almost a quarter million km on it now. I'm addicted to boost. Still hammers! Only last service I did I changed to Edge 5w-40 as it was on super special :)

Can't comment on noise as this is the only barra turbo I've spent much time in, but I think regular changes with decent oils determine longevity. I do oil+filter at 7,500km intervals.

Only issues I've had in the engine were worn timing chain skipping a tooth, picked up when I had them install new valve springs. Still drove fine, which is not necessarily a good thing hahaha.

Mine hasn't been completely happy on the penrite at start up. Have gone from their 15w-50 race stuff to 10w-50 but still not happy with. Never had noise with the Nulon 10w 40. It's fine when warmed up, just top end chatter when cold. I am running the PAC springs though which are 100lb seat. Think I'll go back to the Nulon next change.

Changed my oil a cupla weeks ago. Had Castrol Edge 10/60 (I think it was) in it but I couldn't get any in town - both suppliers were out of stock - so I put Nulon 10/40 back in it and I now have a top end rattle..

Have no idea what is actually making the noise and only lasts about 2 minutes and then shuts up but I will be keeping an eye on it.
