I think it's time that things are about to go full circle!

This forum has been mostly about modifying these cars and so as the heading suggests, it's time to look at how some of us will be trying to return these much modified cars to stock.

Why you ask?

Well I feel the prices are starting to bottom for most FPVs and that's when they'll really get screwed around with as younger players modify them more and more and eventually bin them.

FPV do not exist anymore so original parts will become harder to source.

I'm older enough to have seen GTHOs for $7500 and GTs for a lot less than that.

I'll use the famous GTHO Phase 3 as an example.

In 1971 there were approx 13-14 million people living in Australia .

There were about 1500 GT XYs built and 300 GTHOs built.

GTHOs only came in manual and were a game changer. They were favourites (along with GTs) to be modified, and written off, stolen etc.

Fast forward to 2004 and the FPV Typhoon was released, another game changer.

They made approx 450, only came out in manuals and produced the most amount of torque of any Aussie built car (before that the phase 3 held the title) they've become favourites to modify etc etc.

Now I'm not for one minute suggesting that Typhoons will attract the same amount of money as the legendary GTHO for various reasons like race pedigree etc.

But rest assured FPVs will be sort after in the future.

Yes their just flash Taxis, but so were the XYs.

My car for example has been modified and then returned to a stockish condition.

At first I had a few simple plans for some mods but as time has passed the original car has grown on me.

I have started to replace the bits that were still modified or changed and this may sound easy but I am finding reversing some mods back to stock harder than I thought.

It's easier to cut something up to mod it than it is too return it to standard.

So be aware of this when you modify your car. For example a simple thing like cutting a wiring harness is a bugger to reverse.

At the end of the day it's your car and modifying it is your right but try and be a little sympathetic to the future.

Another thing, there are a hell of a lot more part specific things in FPV Typhoons than GTHO Phase 3s!

So keep that in mind before you bin something, it could be worth a small fortune in the future.

Cheers!

You'll need to have a shipping container that can happily sit in your backyard for about 15 years before you'll start to see a decent return on your investment....

FPV 05 BA Typhoon 319 resto.

I've been changing a few things back to stock on my Typhoon.

First I replaced these Autometer gauges with the stock ones I got off eBay.

I hated these gauges since I bought the car!

The standard ones look a lot better and go with the rest of the interior imho.

I had a few issues chasing wiring, the front harness was missing completely, I found the plug behind the LH headlight. I made my own for now but will look at putting a stock harness back in when I find one.

Also had to buy an oil pressure sender for the gauge; Ford genuine part $450

VDO genuine part $76 off eBay delivered.

Next job will be repainting the standard brake callipers back to blue.

They look OK red but a bit too try hard to be Brembo for my liking!

I found a mob that does replacement decals for the brake callipers in heat resistant White and chrome for $10 a set, so I ordered a set of each.

Next I'll track down some standard suspension springs as the car is a bit low for my liking.

2 questions.

Are the standard brake decals white?

Are the suspension springs for a 05 BA Typhoon different to XR6t springs?

I didn't buy the car as an investment!

I bought it because it was the first decent performance Ford made for a very long time and when they came out I liked them a lot.

The car was a bargain for what I paid for it and it is my daily driver and will continue to be for a very long time...... Maybe forever!

I'm not too worried about resale but I am well aware that specific parts will be harder to come by and therefore more expensive.

I think these cars are worth looking after if you intend on keeping them for as long as I do that's all.

1983 doesn't seem that long ago to me!!!

In 1972. We had an original XY GTHO in the family. My dad bought it. and in the day they worked the engine more and had it tow his Bridge to Bridge race boat called Phase III. I had a photo of it hooked up to his race boat and trailer but lost it. Kinda kicking himself for selling it but no one new it would be a collectors car back then. I will be keeping my R spec as it was the last real GT that rolled off the FPV production line before Ford took over.

Yeah pretty lucky with the White worm, I have a little bit here and there.

R-spec diffinitly worth looking after imho.

I kept stock bits for ages. Then I sold or binned the lot. I am keeping my car as long as I live and it's never going back to stock

Funny you should bring the subject up, I've been playing around with HDT commodores over the past 10yrs and seen a big shift from modified cars back to concourse restos, mainly due to values going through the roof

I like modified cars however I like to keep mods to somewhat reversible state, with my F6 the previous owner fitted a huge boot install and hacked up the OEM wiring for the amp so I just spent the say rewiring the plug and refitting the factory sub and also fitted a 3rd brake light to go with the F6E bobtail
