Surge Tank + Fuel Pump, When Do You Need Them And Why?

I was doing 130mph using KPM's twin 300's... 0.82 lambda with very conservative timing and no traction until 3rd

Now I have the twin 460's and a built motor and box on the way, to try and max out the gtx3582... Plus supporting mods to try and get it down the track...

I'll be happy to put KPM's new e85 pumps in to see how far they can be pushed?

Didn't KPM also do some testing with their swirl pots in a production series ute around mallalla? Only had 5lts in the tank and monitored flow and pressure. They thrashed it around until it basically ran out of fuel. Results were that the pressure and flow didn't budge at all until it just plain ran out.

Not banging the KPM drum at all, but I think the data speaks for itself. Surges are redundant compared to a properly engineered intank system.

I would like to see this data as if true that is a pretty good sales pitch.

What is the KPM intake solution and how much is it?

I ran my car around wakefield park with 10L e85 as an experiment when I first got my twin pump setup. I done 7 laps, zero surge, with fuel to spare.

I retrofitted the fg tank into my car to fit KPM's fuel module and for 2 weeks I didn't have a fuel sender, I completely ran out of e85 twice, both times not even knowing I was near empty and no surge with plenty of spirited driving leading up to it

But I'm sure David has some clear data he can share, as well as the tests they carried out regarding fuel temps and their effects??

There's just one thing that's slightly irritating me, these are ANTI-surge tanks we are talking about?

Another thing as regards the 20sec at wot or 1000m runs, I would have thought that as speed increases ,acceleration decreases and therefore G-force so the fuel should come back too the pick-up or are these tanks that bad?

Just an observation , don't mean to nit-pic!

Yeh the BA tank is terrible and even hooking around the streets in summer u notice it ( surge )

Some are banging on about seconds at WOT that's fine the first time, how bout the refresh rate ... U can empty the intank swirl pot fairly quickly but how fast does it re fill ? This is a killer when u start scooting around streets etc the swirl pot has a hard time refreshing where as if u use the intank to feed a surge ( 1.7-2ltrs ) u effectively have enough fuel to empty the swirl pot AND surge in the same time a intank just emptys,

No doubt intanks will be a good alternative now and in the future but my money is still on the "house" because its done its time and a proven winner especially when u go to the effort of speed controllers on big pumps attached to external tanks.

I see it as having two safety measures in place of just one

Correct. It takes approxamitely 11-13 secs to drain an intank system with NO fuel in the tank.

If you have even as little as 5-10 liters in the tank your properly engineered intank system will both refill from the return as well as scavenge by the venturi system more than enough fuel to keep the swirl pot full.

This is part of the field tetsting that we have done around tight circuits and on street
