My name is roland hence rollex. I've built many cars and changed gearboxes, engines, turbos more times than I can count. I'm nearly 30 now so obviously paying people to do things makes more sense than doing it myself anymore, I've been there done that.

I know the post was a bit brutal and sorry if I offended you but that is the way I see it, makes no sense so I don't want this guy to do it unless he is well aware of the cost and genuinely enjoys cars, the reality is though if he loved it so much he would have just done it and not posted on here.

With that sort of logic then spending any sort of money on a car is a waste of time and money!

You may as well stick with the Corrolla with a turd on the roof!!!

There's always gunna be guys like Gunna who push the boundaries and while to some it doesn't make sense it's the price you pay for being a individual .

If building a cookie cutter XR6t is your thing then that's fine, each too there own.

I'm 50 and still do all my own work and am still learning every time I turn a spanner and started doing my own work on cars at 17 because I was a poor simple fark!

Not much has changed really!

OK guys im finally looking to start on this next week. As it stands the N/A falcon has no motor or gearbox as ive sold them. The turbo is a complete car minus interrior/trims. Whats the best way to go about this? Should completely strip the n/a so its ready to take all the bits from the turbo, or should I put in the motor from the turbo and just replace the other components as I go? Also while im here, should I replace the IRS in the n/a or not much point? same for the suspension. I think I will change the brakes over. Im sure ill have a bunch more questions soon so ill just post them in this thread as I think of them. Thanks for the help so far guys really appreciate it

If you are just doing engine and not interior/hvac ect you need to strip the bay down change the whole loom pcm, abs module ect maybe cluster as well. Swap the brakes and rear end, whole cradle is the easiest way if you have a tranny jack and access to a hoist.

Are you doing icc swap ect? If so its really best to strip the whole interior, swap all electrics and then the car virtually wakes up in a new body. No stuffing around with computers required.

And unless the donor cars brakes are the premium options, you can source bf/fg turbo front calipers for like 200 bucks. Fg brackets do work but you need to put them on the opposite side to what the are marked. So im told...gonna grab a set for the AU when they pop up

I found it easier to take the guards of ,so you can get to the wiring harness . ps you will have to take most of the interior out to hook up the harness to the inside near the foot well .have you still got my phone no ? I can guide you true as much as I can .have done it before

yes that's the plan. whats a loom pcm? I think ill have to use all the electronics from the donor car anyway cos its a manual and the receiving car is auto. Do you know if the gear lever will go through the hole in the floor for the auto? apart from that im just really hoping everything will just bold off and bolt on to the other car. what do you recon about swapping the front suspension over? any point? cheers

All honesty mate strip it all down, front guards off, bonnet, bumper lights etc as all the wiring threads through. I'd swap the whole rear end in one go if you can get access to a hoist/tranny jack as barnz said, before you do it I'd do bushes especially if its a manual. CAT600/nolathane rear is the go if you can afford it, you can find him on the ford forums. The gear lever fits straight in just make sure you get the rubber boot off of the manual, wiring loom on the dash is the same for manual / auto just swap the 2 looms going forward on each side, and the "turbo" loom which is the 3rd plug on the ecu and is used for boost control.

Theres worth in swapping suspension if one car has significantly less KM or you can do what I did and do bushes while its all out but all in all its simply a matter of stripping 2 cars and rebuilding one. The handling improvement from worn stockies to new nolathane bushes all round was bigger than when I swapped from stockies to bilsteins/king springs on the old bushes.... and if anything its smoother on everything bar harsh bumps.

Regarding cost it just depends how patient you are. My build with the FG F6 engine (not in yet), big turbo, id1000's, plenum, tr6060 & new twin plate clutch, big tail shaft, bilstens, f6 seats, brakes etc etc etc cost about the same as a decent BA mk2 xr6 turbo 4 speed. It took me 2 wrecks and a year or so of waiting/prowling ebay, auction houses, gumtree every day to gather all the parts and finally doing ALL of the work at home and theres still more to go but it IS doable on a tight budget.

luke youre a legend mate thanks heaps. im gonna replace the dash cluster from the donor car as well, so all the electrics should just go back together the way they were in the car originally. Only thing is, the ICC is cracked on the donor car, can I just keep the one that's in the other car? New bushes definitely sound like the way to go ill save up for some nolathane ones, how much am I looking at? ill also probably do new springs at the same time too
