Tune Electronic Throttle To Make It More Responsive?

it isn't really low compression, it is lower sure but far from low. My old 9:1 2.5L turbo skyline felt like it had much more direct throttle response, I'm not sure if it was just the cable throttle or it actually was more responsive, I would have though having an extra 1.5L would surely make the 4L as good if not better off boost though.

I wasn't exaggerating when I said my 900cc charade had better throttle feel, it really does feel better at the really low openings eg 10-20%

Errrm your expecting a big 4ltr long stroke 6 to have "response" like a little motor ???

It comes down to the physical size and weights of the moving parts inside the engine.

These are torquey engines and as a general rule engines built for torque don't have the response of a high reving small motor.

It's just physics!

Just throttle response, if I flatten the throttle at low revs it feels fine and torquey, I mean the motor definitely makes lots of torque at low revs, it just seems to need more throttle than I'd expect. I'm fairly certain the issue is the electronic throttle not the actual motor, though who knows.

A great example is the good old 3.8L VN commodore, sh*tbox car and long stroke engine but they have really nice throttle response, the VP etc onwards don't because they changed the throttle design, people commonly change it to get the old feel back.

I didn't think my 2.5L turbo 6 cyl was that small, the block is almost the same size as the 4L, had a longer intake tract as well and it had good throttle response.

I believe what he is referring to is that he wants it to feel like a cable throttle, the fly by wire throttle is slowed down greatly, I can't remember off the top of my head but if your foot is 10% the TB is 4%... Foot 20% TB 12% etc, so there is room for improvement, I had mine quite snappy, but like I said it would trigger a limp mode...

So it isn't 1:1 from the factory, they have dampened it? Does anyone have the standard mapping they could post up? Curious what it looks like.

edit: I'm going to ask if I can have a look at the tuning software when I get the car tuned on Fri, see how much we can fiddle with it and if it improves the feel. What is the map called in the SCT XCAL software? I'll see if Bruce has played with it before.

Man there are so many things that affect throttle response including stroke, inlet track length, throttle size, port size, flywheel weight etc etc.

I find both my turbo sixes pretty good though, but they ain't no sports car.

Just learn to love the torque and forget about their other short comings.

Completely understand mate, but I'm sure with some time this table can be calibrated just like we do with the air, fuel and timing

The GM guys adjust these tables all the time

I'm a perfectionist so if I can get something tweaked I won't stop until I've either done it, or f*cked around with it so much I've made it worse :P
