K well I cheaped out and got some 1200kg stands for the back they are a pin type. I have 3000kg ones for the front that are a ratchet type.

Anything not cool about that?

And are blocks of wood really a good idea between the jack and the front cross member, I had one start to roll one day and looked like it was gonna pop and that was enough to put me off, had done it plenty of times prior also, piece of wood not so square probably would have been better. Pretty sure trolley jacks have those tabs for a reason, so they can get some purchase as they move.

I had no problem putting a few little bumps into the surface of my front K-frame rail :) Nobody's going to see it and as long as it doesn't structurally compromise the rail metal, then I'm OK to recommend it... anybody with any bad stories to share on it to tell me that I'm not talking sense?

I always use a piece of treated pine (well used to before I got the hoist) between the jack head and cross member. Your car should be chocked efficiently to prevent it from moving before jacking.

Back in my HD Mech days Metal jack/piece of hardwood/frame was the norm to prevent metal sliding on metal.

Yeah I used a bit of pine also, and always chocked. The front cross member is quite narrow so I probably just positioned it incorrectly. I don't particularly like being under cars unless they are on a hoist so it doesn't take much to set off my paranoia..

Where do you guys usually position the trolley jack at the rear, only had the back of a falcon on stands once and used that..pressed cross member :s

Forgot to mention chocks hahaha, always use them :)

I use the main cross member section underneath/behind the diff.

I have not had the need to lift the rears yet so I would not have a clue. However when I do lift the front up, I use bricks to chock the rear wheels. I am yet to go to and buy myself those stands Luke.

I used a set like that at Phill's house when we had our last WA maint day. I thought they were smicko. top notch stuff and light.

Problem was getting them to stay still whilst driving onto. Might get a couple of wood planks and sit them in between the stands and the wall.
