Looking at buying a zf fg xr6t. Has the zf tune already done. Car is 450rwkw. Heard the best way to drive the zf even when cruising it daily is in tiptronic as it places less stress when tuned? Is this true? Previously had a manual f6 so not to cluey with the autos.

I drive it in manual mode to keep it out of clunking into first

Which car is it mate?

And 450 on the stock box will not last.

I'm at 440 on the stock tune and it absolutely hates me so budget 6k for a new box if it isn't built already

If you use auto the kick down will break the input shaft. Using tiptronic avoids this.

Will still kick down in manual but only if you're in the wrong gear for the speed. Just have to learn which gear you need to be in.

Wish we could tune them to be completely manual.

kick back happens at any throttle position if the box is in the wrong gear in auto mode, but in manual mode it will still drop back for example 4th gear if nailed 100 % will kick back to 3rd under 120 kmh.

yes it can be tuned out I'm pretty sure but have never tried it, could be dangerous

What is kick back? Is that when you floor it and then the ZF drops back a gear?

EDIT: ahh ratters post ^^ explains it, thanks.
