Keeps the turbo in "spool land" longer for faster response. Holds gears longer for more power and torque delivery. Chews a lot more gas. Changes can be harsh. I think it only changes into 6th at 140Kph or something like that?

the adaptive mode in Sports (yes it still adapts in Sports mode) 'counts' quicker, so if you are driving hard on a windy section of road in Sports mode, it will change its shifting behaviour and start banging itself back into 2nd gear when you brake for the corners much quicker than if you drive the same but in normal D.

edit: well this is true in my BF, I'll assume the stock tune ZF in FGs are the same.

I don't think they have the same tune. I've driven a lot of N/A ZF FG's (and a few T's) and they all shift way smoother than my BF ZF. It's not an age thing because my car has only 50k on the clock. I hope it's not mine in particular :)
