If you want to drag race and change any faster then get a GHEY ZF!!!
demon1300 Member 435 Member For: 12y 10m 23d Gender: Male Posted 22/09/14 07:44 AM Share Posted 22/09/14 07:44 AM I believe the issue all comes down to tolerances. I think Mal Wood can do a blueprint for not too much & from what I've read, completely eliminates the issue. I'll be looking at sending him my box to give it the once over in the not too distant future. Most likely when I put a twin plate in

He reckons these TR6060's need to be treated nicely for the first 5,000 odd kms to bed the synchros in properly, if done correctly they're basically bullet proof (he was telling me how he can flat shift his with huge power no worries). He says the problem with hard changing early on in the cars life is it rounds off the gears and glazes the synchros. He suggested I put the stock shifter back on (he didn't rate rip shifters very highly...whether that's coz he thinks they're no good or just coz sells his own shifter or not I'm undecided), flush the gearbox oil and put in some new Dexron 3 and treat it gently for a few thousand kms. He said to do that and see how it goes, reckons the synchros may come good again in time.He also mentioned he will be visiting in Perth at some point in the future so is happy to take the car for a drive if I'm in Perth at the same time and let me know what he thinks of it.

The syncros not gripping second gear and getting it up to speed quick enough and your feeling a crunch when the dogs engage.I wouldn't have thought they would need babying for that long though.Oh well he's the expert so give it ago. Rebuild would be a couple of grand going off what he was saying, given he'd charge $500 to pull it apart and put back together, plus money for new parts, then 6 hrs labour on top to pull the box out and then put it back in...ouch.Doesn't sound like it is something Ford would warrant though. See how I go but, could try hassling them saying I followed the run in procedure and the gearbox shouldn't be doing this and I would like a new one please...don't like my chances though...

My cousin has the VS Bogan special 6 speed manual and it's so smooth compared to ours, no crunchers, no roll over nothing!Though he dumped the factory oil within a week of buying new and uses Redline.. Might be worth a shot changing oil Edited 22/09/14 08:05 PM by Pazzo
