Well, my g6e turbo has been running like crap lately, rough, even backfired once at idle the other day when I gave it a little rev. Been reading all these threads about fg cam wear, broken chain guides, jumped chains, missing ect ect. Logged over 100 misfires on a drive the other day.

So with all this in mind and the car not right, I decide to pop the rocker cover and well... Que dramatic music:

First I discover my engine is made of bronze.

Then I looked at the cams.

Then I looked at the chain tensioner

Fark..

So with everything checking out ok....I proceed to find where no 1 inlet and exhaust rock and its here

Excellent. So I grab my special tdc finding tool.

Find tdc by eye just by looking at the specialised tool, look down and this is what I see

so inlet has definitely opened a little by tdc and im no expert and not sure if its normal but I would think the rocking should be occurring at tdc.

Also found where these line up but im not sure if that means chit as I cant see the bottom marks obviously. I think no 6 was rocking at this point or close to it if that means anything.

Also while all the plugs were in I turned it a couple of times and you could hear them all hissing, alot. Clearly not sealing. As I pulled them out one by one noise got quieter and went away completely when no 6 came out. Ngk ifr6tt torqued to spec. This is how they look

So yeah....not really that thrilled about it all, 100 000k's. Bone stock. Serviced by ford until 80 000.

So my question to all the egg spurts out there is: Is my timing out and should I just sell this dud....

Welcome to owning a fg ;)

Timing at TDC should look like the two yellow marks on the chain as in your pik matched up with the divits on the cam phasors ( so correct )

The harmonic balancer as in your last pik ( so correct )

K so its just my cams and the seals on those plugs that are farked. Oh and there is a bit of plastic floating around in the bottom of the timing case lol. Also jet, 80 thousand on mineral at what I assume was fords 15000 k intervals. I don't think I will mod this one... :-( wait for an xr8 I think.

Honestly plugs make that sound when your mechanically turning it by hand so dont stress to much ( its actually the exhaust valve cracking releasing pressure )

Yep u got plastic at the bottom, so do thousands of 4.0 owners

The dirtyness is deff from 15,000 intervials hence why we push 5,000 k services around here ;)

Were still yet to get to the bottom of the fg cams saga but what oil have u used in the past 20,000kms ?

Penrite hpr10 syn, and nulon 15-40 semi syn dunno what brought me to use the nulon exactly. Was going to go back to the penrite. So you dont think its all bad?

Have just switched from Nulon 10w40 which I ran for about 45k to Penrite Racing 15 (15w 50) as with the new power I wanted something with a little more viscosity for the track squirts I do occasionally. Have noticed though she's a little clackerty for longer on cold start up.

The Nulon when changed out at 5k ish kept the engine pristine inside as per pic from last week.

Mate I'd do and engine flush, fish the plastic out, put a new guide on and away you go again. You could put new or undamaged donor cams in like I did, but no guarantee they won't screw up also.

2 and 5 were the worst but the were all pretty bad, except no 1 inlet that was almost unmarked.

First pic is 5 exhaust and 2nd is 2 exhaust.
