The idea of stopping people who are just learning to drive from getting behind the wheel of high powered cars by these laws is justified.

Please do yourself a favour and buy a lower powered car to LEARN HOW TO DRIVE FIRST, before you take the wheel of a car that can easily kill you, your friends or another person in a nanosecond.

To come on here and try to get support to break the law and most likely gain a car that you will crash, is stupid.

If you want, get a NA XR6, but even they are not good learning cars. Stick to a 4cyl car and get some experience first on how cars, traffic and conditions can affect a car.

Also your insurance would be voided in an accident, even in your dads name because.... IT IS ILLEGAL FOR YOU TO DRIVE IT.

I myself am on the old P plate rules, Where I can drive them legally.

If there is a law that you cant, then stick to the law. It is there for a reason.

I started racing karts at the age of 8, then speedway cars at 16.

People who get their l's, drive a 4 cyl car, then buy a xr6t then debadge it is f$$king insane. You will not only kill yourself but others around you.

Have some driving experience first. Like zap said, Get a na xr6; They are sweet cars and go hard. Also go to driver training then the advance courses in your na xr6 Like I did to understand how the car works. And dont say you do know because you dont.

I wouldn't bother doing it. Just stick with an n/a xr6 (or a sprinter with a 4age u'd have heaps of fun with that) or something legal for a P plater. It would suck if you crashed your 17-25k car and didn't have insurance, its not the smartest idea.

The whole introduction of the reduced power limits was to enable younger drivers to gain manageable driving experience dont be silly mate

A mate of mine has a ba xr6 but what he did was put the gt body kit and the bonnet and now he is taking it all off due to him getting pulled over all the time with the cops and asking him if it is an 6t or an 8.

I was going to work with him for about 2 months and he was averaging 2-3 times getting pulled over and he is getting sick of it

a few years ago when Wa were talking about bringing that law in, I used to hate hearing the above comments aswell. but they are right and do make sense to me now. once traction control is off they're a pretty easy car to write off if your in experianced, and if you do that you've just lost 20grand because insurance wont give you a cent.

buy a n/a xr6 use the money you saved and dump it on some good rims, de-badge it, and get an xr8 bonnet .

or wait another year and get the car you want,

Even though you may not like hearing it, take the advice of these guys who have already gone through it and wait till you've got your full licence. Theyre not saying it just to be preachy, they know from their own experience how very easy it is for things to go wrong.

I thought I was king sh*t when I got my p's and used to drive like an absolute lunatic. No two ways about it, I would have wrapped myself around a pole if I was behind the wheel of an xr6t. You might think your bullet-proof, but trust me, you're not.

and I am willing to run the risk in order to enjoy myself on the XR6 turbo.

is it as simple as de badging it, and dealing with insurance in that its in say my dads name and im a nominated driver?

that insurance would be huge, and very few companies would touch you. It is bad enough for me and im 24.

There are plenty of fun cars out there that are legal. I can recommend an impreza RS, looks like a wrx, handles like a wrx and is still no slug as it has a 2.5lt engine. Insurance is pretty good too.

Or alternativly if you want chicks to like your car (was a big consideration for me at your age) try a new mini. Fun little car that will really pull the skirt.
