At the risk of getting flamed by many members, is there anyone out there that agrees with me in thinking that all drivers should redo their licence every x-amount of years???

ie: every five years each licenced driver must redo their licence test???

I'd have nothing against that at all, so long as we don't have to fork out money to have the driving test every X years. It would definitely help to weed out some of the real old drivers on the road, and the people who just can't drive in general.

But then again, you could drive perfectly on the test, and the Instructor may not like you, and fail you, and then bingo bango there goes your licence.

I don't think the licensing departments would be able to cope with every driver being retested every X years, those craphole licensing centres are sooooo busy already!

and to Kael; brother we are with you in most aspects, but be sensible about it, there is no point breaking the law whatsoever. If the sign says 70km/h, then do 70, it's just that simple. Those of us on this side if the law cannot 'win'.

Although we may drive vehicles that are capable of doing 180km/h around those tight twisties down to margarets, does not mean we should legally be able to do it.

If you want to drive your car unabridged of speed limits, head to barbagallo's or the meelup hill climb.

And also to Jon, mate you're farkin spot on; although we may bitch and moan occasionally about our government/laws/regulations/rules, those rules are the exact reason that we have the best country in the world! We live in a country free of most things that impoverish other nations, be proud of that, and be slightly ashamed every time you feel yourself getting annoyed that P-platers can't drive cars that will eventually kill them!

agreed Mat, competely agree with that.

How about making a defensive driving course a mandatory part of obtaining your licence!? I've done just the basic course a few years ago, and it's saved me many times, I must go and redo t in the T.

Why not make attending and passing a defensive driving course part of passing your licence!!??

I'm with uncle Dan. Adding a defensive driving course as a part of the license testing would be fantastic, as it would ensure people were properly equipped to get behind the wheel. I'm not sure about the re-testing, as it'd be a huge burden on the system. I do, however, believe all people should be retested once they hit a certain elderly age. Even a "dob in a granny" line so people can identify the dangerous driver for retesting.

I don't get off my P plates for another year and a half. I was lazy and had my L's for 2 years before getting my license, but I drove 2 hours every single day (too and from work). So now, I have my license, I have the car I've always wanted (XR6T) and the government is going to tell me I cannot drive my car? Like hell. If the government isn't going to let me drive the car which I bought with my hard earned money, then they government can pay my repayments and insurance until I am eligible to drive my car.

FWIW, I think an important part of driver education should be a visit to the morgue (no one likes to see a dead person after a car crash) and more importantly a rehab centre.

Death isnt always the worst option and its very confronting seeing how some people are struggling to get through their day. I had to visit a friend of an ex shortly after I lost my license. Scary stuff indeed

Hey just wondering what u guys (and girls) think of this; It's from yesterday’s The West Aussie newspaper;

"Ban on P-Platers driving high performance vehicles"

"After continued research showed that there was no link between saving life’s on WA roads and the types of vehicles people drive, Alan Carpenter ignored the evidence and pledged to ban P-Platers from driving high performance cars."

I'm just curious to see how people react; would you still support the idea of said bans after your government advisers told you it aint gunna do jack?

Cheers, Kael.

There isn't a direct link between young driver's, performance cars & road deaths but there is a link in the public's opinion. Mr Carpenter is just trying to keep the majority of the voting public happy... Get over it & enjoy your XR6T when/if you get one :buttrock:
