Blah

Once I get off my P plates, it's a whole new level of hooning... haha

I am actually scared to get done and having to go all the way back to my L's

Once your off them, care factor changes quite dramatically.

They should be more worried about people just getting off their P's :D

haha only joking im not gonna hoon carelessly.

though that prooves the point that P plate != hoon

Yep already done over here in NSW, sounds very similar. Don't worry, all you exisiting P-Platers will most probably be exempt, no one will take your car off you.

To tell you the truth, it's not a real solution, but it's a step in the right direction as hard as it is to admit. The issue is not just high performance cars, but more importantly should be also about using and sharing the road responsibly. The little old man or lady with kids, usually isn't driving a high performance car. Little wonder they aren't going 10 over the limit or taking bends as fast as you can. But many of them try here! All drivers need to learn patience and respect for all other road users, even if you see someone else doing something stupid.

Take it upon yourselves and go and do an advanced driver course on your own bat. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to convince parents or work to pay the cost, plus many insurers give discounts on premiums if you've done one. Also experience can count for alot, like expecting people to do stupid things. I've lost count of how many people I've avoided when they change lanes or come out of driveways and intersections without looking. I've seen drunk drivers and trucks/busses behave stupidly. Sometimes people just don't pay attention, I've done it, we all have, no one is perfect, but you can always be better. It's all part of driving on the road.

The thing is, with the cars of today, the average Falcon or Late model camira has more than enough power, much more for a young and inexperienced driver, let alone an XR6T that is so easily modded. Sure you know you can drive, but can you really? Do you slow down in school zones, do you give trucks extra room, do you look for potential emergency situations that may or may not happen? Do you anticipate what effect that uneven road surface will have as you take the corner? I've taught a few people to drive and it's really an eye opener, has taught me more about driving than when I was young. Plus there are many more cars on the road year after year. It's an ever increasing playing field. Even with safer cars and roads, it's still up to the driver to use them safely. Roads aren't race tracks either. Quite frankly they suck for driving fast because of all the unexpecteds. If the road is unsafe at the posted spead limit or suggested corner speed then we should complain to the relevant transit authority or council. Do something about it.

Anyway believe it or not, one day if you are smart, you'll appreciate being a safe and responsible driver. Perhaps you can pass on those skills to your future kids and keep them from harm. While your at it, go and do a senior first aid course and you'll get an insight into what to expect in emergency situations such as a car accident.

I'm no pollie, or policeman, or emergency worker or angel. Just an experienced road user who's always learning, I have my good and bad days behind the wheel too.

Very well said, Ben.

I do disagree with some others comments that, like the government policies, insinuate that banning performance cars from younger drivers will save life’s. There is a wealth of reasons/suggestions stated in previous pages of this thread and on many others as to how the government could make a better and more effective approach to cracking down on hoons and making the streets safer. Banning all people who have not had their licences for 2 years (WA WA land) from performance cars is not the way to go. Hopefully they will "see the light" one day and do something serious to clean up the streets.

As bluute said, all cars can kill. Although id like my chances of recovering from a spoon-draining slide in a performance car ALOT more than in my Corolla - which mind you can reach speeds of over 200km/hour - far more deadly in a floppy buzz box (Corolla) than a low slung performance Falcon.

Mat, I have been looking for an XR6T for ages, recently I found one with the EXACT options I wanted; Premium sound, FPV Gauges & Steering wheel, sunroof, no aftermarket poo wheels, right colour/trim/trans...etc. The one I found with said options and for the right price also had a tune entered on one of the slots for 314RWKW. I wouldn’t need to rely on the attractive suggestive girl to floor it and get into trouble, as I currently drive an AE101 Corolla with 1.6 litres of Japanese muscle, and said girl is happy to get her clothes off for its performance (and mine). Further my one eyed Expensive Daewoo M8's know that such an XR6T would eat their VU SS, VU SS, VY SS ute, VS 'S' Pack or mayb even my brothers worked 355. As for the radar detector, it is to keep me safe when the ridiculously slow 80km/h on Leach Hwy drops to an even more ridiculous 70km/h and I tell the speed sign to GTFO.

Cheers, Kael.

Nah im guessing theyd do the same thing they did in NSW. Set a date and anyone who gets their P's after that date is affected by the laws and everyone who got it b4 that is exempt.

So why the whine and grind. My opinion is the government which is full of old and geriatric *beep*'s who are making it a huge deal out of nothing more for revenue even. There will always be idiot drivers. There will always be some thing to ruin it for others.

As much as I'm not a fan of today's Government, those "old geriatric fags" are a major part in why Australia is one of, if not the, best country in the world.

Scribr, honey, please go get my slippers.

You are making yourself this hoon with this comment. We are all guilty of speeding at some point but your comment is wrong. The limit is the limit and is such for a reason. And while it may at times seem odd, or too slow or not to suit you you aren't helping any causes with this comment.

Hey here's a heads up that will impress you.. The school zones are about to become all day 40k zones not just during the peak drop of pick up times for schools.
