W.A is the place to be :spoton: !

To be honest, I couldn't care less what you do with your money so you are correct - how people finance their money is their choice. Someone asked for some advice and I gave the best I could based on my own experience. I'm still struggling to see how what I said was stereotypical. That young people generally don't have money? Unfortunately, that's just reality for most. if you are different, then good luck to you but that doesn't change my opinion or make me jealous.

In my case, I could have bought the car I really wanted when I was 21 but decided to wait and am happy that my compensation was a roof over my head (and my T purchased years later in the garage). Hopefully you are one of the minority who have all the financial knowledge you'll ever need at a young age. I didn't.

Two things I will say though. Firstly, cars are one of the biggest financial pitfalls you will ever become involved in. Ask any accountant/ financial planner - they hate them. You must balance this fact with the emotional factor involved in purchasing a car. If you can justify the cost to satisfy the car you want rather than the one you need - then great. Secondly, when you buy your house, ask yourself how much less you could have borrowed had you bought a more economical car first.

I admire how you account both side into your post unlike others and I agree with all your points and sorry if I was a bit brash before. The reason as to why I brought a T now rather than down the track is because had I brought an economical car as such I probably would have spend $16gs on something I didn't like and would only use for 3 years. At the time my T came up for about 6gs more than that so instead of paying stamp duty and going through all the paper work twice I brought the car which I really wanted. The 6gs extra that I spent essentially is only worth about 2gs when you take out double the stamp duty and depreciation, hence my decisions. I don't really think that this amount is going to affect a house loan of over $400g. Though in saying that had I brought the car brand new for 48gs or round abouts I would have thrown 24gs down the drain after the first 2 years of ownership. My car however is still worth the same amount as what I brought it for, if not more.

Ahem, straying from the topic. Like others have mentioned its not really the power to weight ratio it is the fact that you will be uninsured. If your filthy rich and insurance doesnt matter then im assuming laws dont either ;)

Hi guys,

I know there are a few P-platers here in VIC with XR6T's, which are clearly over the power to weight ratio. I was just wondering, do you guys ever get pulled over? Or do you just debadge the car?

Do the police actually check car make and model at an RBT? or just a random pull over? Because, as much as I'd love to have one, the risk is a bit high in my opinion.

I do check as do others, intercooler makes it obvious though.

Was reading through the banned (NSW) list the other day it seems that if you own a genuine Phase 4 Falcon you can drive a V8 on your P's but Ferraris and Lambos are a no no.

I'm a P-plater in VIC that owns a T, I got it in june and I'm off my p's in december...

But I dont drive it that much at the moment, I drive my EF during the week and if I go back home to my folks place, where I keep the car (1.5hr drive away), I'll take it for a drive...

But there is times when I may drive the T for a week or 3, and I've never had even a look from the cops (P plates displayed), the car is debadged appart from the two ford ones, but I do have two gauges in the usual spot...

OK.. Well I had my T on my P's for about 1 year and half got pulled over quit abit due to the way my car looks (dumped, big rims) and at the time it was only ever a fine no points no licence loss EVER I got pulled over 8-10 times on my Ps and only ever got the fine $110.

Also mine was debadged but that dosnt relly work as they will tell you to pop the bonnet then your d!cked.

As for the insurance, for full comp I was paying around $2500 with a $2400 excess which was a lot of money but hey it had to be done as these cars arnt cheap.I never bithced about the price as that what you get when you drive a high power car on your P's so be awhare of that if you get one.

As for people saying that even thowe they will insusre it, they will bail on a claim because it illegal. that's BULL SH1T, I had some wa*ker hit the back side of my car, and long story short, he bailed and I never heard from him again so I had to go through my insurance (which is just cars by the way) and they fixed the whole thing for me AND they even chased down the guy that hit me so I didnt end up paying the excess.

So if you pay for full comp ,you get it regardless of the high powerd/p plate laws...

My 2 cents

So if I get drunk tonight and wipe my car out, I am covered according to you.

It's against the law to drive over 0.05 but I have full comprehensive so I am covered regardless of the laws, right? :tonguepoke:
