I believe it was 1988 or '89.

I got my licence in Melbourne back in Sept '89 and just missed out on the power to weight ratio thing as well as having to be on P plates for 3 years instead of 2. I was one of the first generation to have the red background with the white P on my P plates. The power to weight ratio thing was originally introduced at that time.

Let me start by sayin I love my T with a passion, however, forget spendin your hard earned cash on a T... just yet (young whipper snapper) get your motorbike liscence and buy a road bike, if its thrills and performance your after, a pocket rocket Yamaha YZF R6 will do the job. As I said, I love my T but nothin compares to the rush of my road bike...sorry guys. (nothin gets the blood pumpin like throwin your knee on the tarmac at 200 clicks) & with one of these bad boys...you wont have to stop for those pricks in blue

I hope to christ you havnt got kids, bugger getting a T cause of the road rules, buy something faster and outrun everyone.....

if that's the case, buy a T, mod the hell out of it, and remove the brake pedal :spoton:

sorry tumbleweed, but that could possibly be the worst piece of advice ive ever read posted here

Hey mate, I drive a XR6 Turbo on my P's here in Victoria. Ive never been pulled over so I don't know what the cops are like but that's because I drive like a grandma on the road and stick to the speed limit. My friend on the other hand has been pulled over in his T for a random breathy but the cops never jerryed about the performance regulation. I guess it all comes down to luck with that at the end of the day though and if your willing to take the risk then its up to you. As for insurance im covered and the only nominated driver but my insurance is combined in a package with other items my family insures so it decreases the cost hence why I probably pay less for my insurance than most 25+ y.o. drivers do.

AEC, do you ever want to own a home or are you one of the lucky ones sitting on a goldmine? If cash is not in abundance, buy something reliable, safe and cheap to run for now and enjoy not worrying about the cops pulling you up all the time (not to mention insurance worries etc). Put the cash you saved into a fund and make a call in 3-4 years time.

Even if you have the cash, you have to ask yourself if you'd be comfortable taking the risk.

I think you have worked out the risk factor yourself anyway.

Good luck with the decision.

All due respect Superoo but that's a very stereotypical comment. I cop so much sh*t from jealous people who continuously tell me how I should have brought a house instead of a nice car. I've been working for 4 years and im currently at uni and ive paid off my T and still have enough money to put a deposit on a house, so if your willing to work hard you can afford such things. I'm not having a person dig at you but at the end of the day the way people act and how they finance their money are entirely up to them. Just because your young doesn't mean your clueless and immature!

Cheers

Franc
