Hi guys,

I know there are a few P-platers here in VIC with XR6T's, which are clearly over the power to weight ratio. I was just wondering, do you guys ever get pulled over? Or do you just debadge the car?

Do the police actually check car make and model at an RBT? or just a random pull over? Because, as much as I'd love to have one, the risk is a bit high in my opinion.

Mate, the risk is high, its the same here in NSW, red p-plates on WRX, Skylines, 200sx, I don't think the cops pay that much attention, but if they do, you're in a whole lot of trouble! Your decision, take the badges off, see how you go, wait a little longer and save more money for future mods!

What about insurance here in Vic???

I think you just wait till you are off your P's, get some experience in something with alot less power and then when you can drive them legally then get one.

As long as you dont crash in that time your insurance will be alot cheaper as well as you will have a better rating.

Cheers & Hope this helps.

James

AEC, do you ever want to own a home or are you one of the lucky ones sitting on a goldmine? If cash is not in abundance, buy something reliable, safe and cheap to run for now and enjoy not worrying about the cops pulling you up all the time (not to mention insurance worries etc). Put the cash you saved into a fund and make a call in 3-4 years time.

Even if you have the cash, you have to ask yourself if you'd be comfortable taking the risk.

I think you have worked out the risk factor yourself anyway.

Good luck with the decision.

There is also the fact that you're insurance will be void if you do have an accident. :spoton:

Wow, I'm really glad I live here now lol.

And I pay less for insurance then most of you old fellas

Yep, but that specific rule came in long enough ago that even the earliest probationary drivers will be well off their P's by now.

Funny thing is my young bloke can pace my T around on his learners permit, (with me next to him of course) and he'll go for his licence in it, but as soon as he passes the test he can no longer drive the T.
