I wasn't happy with the trade price offered but am also hesitant to go down the private sale route after some miserable experiences (granted they were 20 years ago).Do you think its worth trying to sell privately or am I likely to end up with a never ending stream of people wasting my time? Trade in V private sale and net cost of a new ride rego/ insurance, rebateson existing policy, loan interest etc where applicable. Are you planning to buy new or second hand. The old dealer double pumpTrades are more time effective but could cost you some serious money that could go on mods.Get the overall best deal for you. cam69 Member 18 Member For: 11y 9m 17d Posted 26/08/14 02:31 AM Author Share Posted 26/08/14 02:31 AM Well I have already bought a new car so the trade options is off the table. So you are correct, its now about whether I can be bothered getting the run around selling privately but then ultimately the only other option is selling to a wholesaler which is probably worse than a trade. As the car is clearly a performance vehicle I am imagining that selling privately will attract some yobs. Anyone had a bad experience? Or a good one?

Good and bad experiences.... Its a late model car, so private sale should not be to bad. Just price it right.

Just price it right.Agree with the above.I have sold all my cars privately and never had a bad experience apart from the usual time wasting and low blowing, which I guess you will get regardless.I just recently sold my immaculate 2011 FG XR6T. Advertised it on Scumtree 2 months ago to get an idea of the market and got nothing but time wasters so I pulled the add a week later. Two weeks ago I listed it on carsales and car was sold within 5 days of me listing it.My advice is avoid listing it on Gumtree if you don't want dreamers and time wasters messaging and emailing you at all stupid hours of the day. Dealers do buy cars outright, but if you weren't happy with the trade in, you'll cry at what will be offered for an outright purchase... Plus side with a dealer is that there is no messing about - Offer is made and you've got the cash/trade. You'll get less but there is less mucking about...Private sales are a mixed bag. You'll always get the bogan/yobo's but you will also get legitimate buyers who are genuinely interested. Gumtree is both a blessing and a curse. You do get a fair bit of exposure for free but there are so many scam artists, young guys with no money and dodgy people offering you 1/3 of the sale price. Some advice from my past sales/purchases - Make sure the car is clean in your photo's and you can see the whole car from all angles, be informative and comprehensive in your description, don't bullsh*t, have a price in mind that you want and be honest. Don't know the rules on selling her in this forum, but if you're in WA send me a PM with some details. I need a new car soon...There will be ups and downs regardless of which way you go mate. All the best with the sale Cheers,Dan

Get a quick sale, and avoid the time wasters. I really don't like selling, but getting shafted by a Car dealer is worse. Remind the buyer that they can pay for an extra 3 years warranty if they'd like ( before initial 3yr warranty expires ).

My ideal turbo came up and so bought it and had to sell the BA quick, put $10k on it and got it within a month. Was pretty luck in some regard but even at $8-9k I would have sold privately and within a week.
