Hey guys, I'm a plumber looking for a car for work. I've been a die hard Expensive Daewoo fan all my life but don't see an ss Ute being practical enough for a work car. Has anyone on here got an fg xr6 turbo ute with a tray back? What do you think of them?

I'll be towing a 2tonne excavator sometimes when needed, how would the ute handle it? Need air bags in the back?

Any feedback would be awesome, this is my first post BTW.

What is the utes tow rating?

Does the excavator weigh 2 ton + trailer?

The trailer would be a dual axle and what weigh a bit as well so I think you would be well over the utes braked tow rating..

Ute has a tow rating of 2300kg braked with heavy duty tow pack and levelling kit.

It would chew the fuel as well with a full load. You would probably be more suited to a diesel ute for heavy towing.

The excavator is 1.8+ an aluminium trailer, I think it would be right on the limit. I agree a diesel would tow better but it's not going to be very often, once every 2 months max. I'm just wondering how it would go, I'm sure it would be a to put up with it, hopefully. I would get a diesel but I can't stand them. Too slow and sounds like your driving a tractor around, no fun in that haha

Fair enough mate. The ute will tow it, that's for sure. It would be heavy on the fuel side for towing but you said its not that often, so all good. Plenty of XR utes around are tray back so start looking mate. It may not be a V8 but these 6 turbo,s sure make any V8 honest. Even these superechraged ones. lol

Not that much really but that's always going to be the case when you add weight to any car. I'll just take some things off if I want to have a bit of fun.

How are these cars for reliability? Last thing I want is not being able to turn up to a job because my car has sh*t itself.

I can only speak for myself here. I've never been left stranded with a Ford. I treat my cars with respect and have have done a lot of K's.

Falcons as taxis speaks volumes.

It seems that some of the Falcons here get an absolute thrashing, and most maintain reliability( including many modifications).

I stepped over to the diesel/import side in 2010.( new Navara). I didn't like it at all, and sold after 14 months ownership.

Performance drops significantly when weight is added to my turbo ute. How much weight will you be carrying.

Maybe consider an FG XR8 ute.

And why an XR8? The 6 turbo craps on it....................

^ only suggested XR8 for towing reasons. Just passing on the thoughts of an old friend who's had both and done plenty of towing. He suggested I go the Turbo because I've got another vehicle for towing.

But not really worth missing out on the Turbo experience for 1 tow every 2 months is it
