I have a couple of mates in the hiway patrol and they have tested the xr8

and thay love it ,it seems, except for the traction control,it seems to stop them

doing quick turn arounds my mate says it feels like it was stalling,I sais ull get used to it but he said the nsw police were talking to ford about somehow removing this function .I said why dont you just turn it off before you chase someone ,he said na too much hassle because its usually a on the spot decision to go after someone and the location of the button makes it difficult what does everyone think?????????.also they havnt tested the t up here yet but its coming... :innocent:

In a manual car it makes the car a little more skittish and fun to drive. With the lowered coils and swaybars it is easier to lose traction by lifting a rear wheel and making the rear get light. FUN.

I disable it regularly, and it's not that much of a hassle. I like to keep it on for the wife though when she drives it.

Id say your mate needs to learn more about driving.

The TC will kick in when the tyres are losing traction. In general he will get a faster U-turn if he keeps the tyred just at the point of almost losing it - maximum power is then put to the ground.

Except for handbrake turns, power u-turns (ie a 180 degree burnout) and similar techniques (which the cops dont use), he will do a faster U-turn with no spinning tyres.

He is just the old school - "Floor it mate...you go faster if its floored". That used to apply with wussy engines but not with powerful ones.

Not in all circumstances, and the perfect example is where your priority is to turn, then you dont need maximum forward motion being put into the rear tyres.

I find the traction control comes on when making quick tight turns very often. Turn it off and the quick turn is done with no wheel spin (and no bogging down due to the t/c). This is of course unless I want to spin the wheels and have a little fun!.

I usually turn off the traction control too when I first start the car. I usually only leave it on when I have my parents in the car (try to drive sedately then) and in the wet.

This may have a bit to to do with the difference of speed of the two back wheels. The car thinks one wheel is spinning hence the TC come on. :banghead:
