I have just had my 270rwkw r32 skyline (1300kg) written off due to a rear end accident, I've managed to get $10k from insurance and have another $10k of my own I'm willing to spend. Apologies in advance if these questions are newbie, I've done a few searches so hopefully I've got some idea.

I've decided to upgrade to a XR6T BF due to it being a safer car and now that I'm 27 want to lose the dickhead label that makes cops love to pull you over. I assume due to being almost 500kg heavier I will need a solid 50kw more to get the same seat of the pants feeling as my skyline so I'm looking for a car already making >300 or modding a stock example to > 300.

Now I've found a few 6 speed 2007 BFs (looking for examples > 06/06 so they have the typhoon motor with different valve springs that can make the power) for around the $12.5k mark, assuming they are in good nick is this a good price? Now I could buy a stock one for around 12.5k, then to make > 300 I need the following (please correct me if I'm wrong).

  • Full exhaust
  • Intercooler
  • Injectors
  • ECU / Real time tune (no mail order bs)
  • Clutch
  • Tyres
  • Wastegate actuator (to stop boost creep)
  • Air filter
  • Fuel pump (is this needed?)

What would one realistically expect to pay for all of this if you install half of it yourself, $4-5k ? Knowing this for $16k am I likely to find a manual BF already making > 300rwkw ?

What would you guys recommend? I've seen the skyline scene and over there it is always far more cost effective to buy someone else's money pit and put a few $k into fixing their problems vs doing it all from scratch, even if they stuff it up it is cheaper to fix than to buy everything up front. Thoughts, should I wait it out to find a modded example, or should I buy a stock one and do it myself, if I do it myself are my costs realistic and is there anything I have missed.

Thanks guys.

edit: How do these cars fare with kilometres, is 185,000 kms a lot? Is it anything to worry about? What kind of things would you expect to fail at this distance and would you be hesitant buying a high km example.

hi mate, look for a 07 up bf,300rwkw is easy to get you can have that safely on any pre 07 b-series after o7 they get the stronger bottom end good if you wish to shot for 400rwkw plus on a stock bottom end. to make an easy 300 you will want 4inch dump pipe,100cpi cat, either dual 2.5 cat back or 3.5 single exhaust both venom and xforce do good budget kits complete from dump to exhaust tip, valve springs a must,a fuel pump upgrade, set of 60lb injectors, plazaman & proccess west do complete fmic upgades including cai, then a good tuner will rip a good rwkw number out safely.depending on what tune software the tuner uses you may be up for a hand set also.if your pretty handy on the tools you should be able to get away with it around the 5500 mark

I paid about 5300 which included the XCAL3 box for $600, tune price $1000 and a full Manta 2x2.5" exhaust which was $1800 brand new in mild steel. If you shop around for used parts you can do it for 3k I reckon.

check out the 300+ thread for the basic 4 things to do.

5k though should see above 300. 8-10k for high 300's (reliably)

From what I've been reading exhaust is not necessary, it seems it will help but I've seen people making 300 with stock cat, dump and exhaust with it only helping when you start to get to 350+

I've just got my middle muffler deleted and the car sounds absolutely unreal, I think it even sounds better than my old 2.5L turbo skyline, definitely a different note but sounds so much meaner, almost v8 like with an amazing crackle on the over run at all revs, really enjoy driving the car much more now that is is awake!

Next step is to buy ID 1000 injectors and an intercooler, everyone seems to recommend the Rapid V2 (V3??) and the plazmaman intercooler, which is better and why? I am looking for a kit with everything I need that I can install myself, so something that doesn't require cutting is preferred, do both of these install without doing any more than drilling a few holes?

Also where do people recommend to buy ID 1000 injectors and intercooler, is ebay safe to buy from, or are there fakes on there that I should beware of?

Is there an intercooler thread people would recommend reading?

Thanks.

Where are you reading about the Rapid one being worth it...because there are endless posts here about the trouble guys have even getting the parts sent to them, let alone fitting (sadly). It requires cutting as well, a lot of kits do though.

Yes there are fake IDs on ebay.

It was just a skim read and saw it mentioned a lot, I haven't done much more investigation, so you would recommend plazmaman? Anyone else I should look at that requires minimal cutting?

If there are fake IDs on ebay where does everyone recommend to buy them from?

plazmaman or process west are the go. I got a rapid v3 years ago and it is great, but sadly the customer service is not there any more.

Pw intercoolers are the go.

Id/kpm are the standard around here and have always had good results

Stay away from the old 60lbs
