Massive effort Joe !!

coolers are a simple device and there's been a big "thing" about them since the dawn of a forced induction vehicle

I have definitely seen what you're talking about with data on the falcon Joe and what you've experienced is quite high for a cool night

I have my own opinions but I've also got a bit of data to support my opinions and have forged ahead with my options/choices when it comes to intercoolers

it's always going to come across as a biased opinion when I say I recommend the Jonny Tig intercooler kit and fair enough but something that was a big eye opener for some of the skeptical punters out there happend about three weeks ago and use it as a reference or not but the data just can't be faulted to any kind of a degree that's possible at this level of the game

I'm talking about a little silver BF ...

this had a big name competitors intercooler fitted previous and could only manage ~660rwkw and 9.2

NOTHING was changed except an intercooler to the Jonny Tig unit ( same boost same lambda as previously targeted )

it went 709rwkw and went out to crack a 8.9 and by the owners account "it had more in it as this was my first and only pass"

D'Annelo ( the tune shop ) was very impressed with the new intercooler

picking up big power and dropping big 10ths at this level of the game is hard very hard so is it all B/S ? Or is there actually data out there like you are seeing Joe and it doesn't take a smart person to work out where to go from here to fix an issue

want one just send me a P.M ;)

What level are you talking about? I don't honestly don't think Joe is at the level mentioned in your post...

660rwkw and 9.2 is certainly nothing to sneeze at in terms of a power level and ET. Hard to believe that only the intercooler would be holding it up at this level, though...

Surely these numbers and the efficiency gain isn't so simple as changing an intercooler/piping?

Feel free to share it. If you're not making a profit and are truly un-biased in this respect, I see no problem with you sharing ;) I'd love to see a full comparison between all of the manufacturers. No intercooler manufacturer sees fit to remain an advertiser on this forum (at this time), so as far as I'm concerned, I see no conflict of interest.

Haha nah I think coolant temp was pretty right, so they shouldn't have been on full ball gaz..

It's definitely a highly opinionated topic as their are so many variables and so little back to back data but Imo You can't really generalise with a power level that something is going to run out or become in-efficient.. If a cooler is heat soaking then it's not exactly doing its job properly?.. My setup is a little different to most as use are aware so 22psi pumping into mine is not the same as something with a stock head or un-modified manifold, boost level is just the measure of restriction but the air volume will be different.. I have always loved my cooler I remember it sitting below ambient and actually getting cooler once on WOT, so I back the PW cooler, but I am interested in looking into other options and have been looking at the Jonny Tig coolers for awhile just thought mine would be good enough..

I havnt actually measure boost before the cooler and after the cooler but this will be one of my tests as well as looking at sizes and volumes and actual cooler design

Back on 15psi on a cool night it would regularly get cooler then ambient, Cruising on a freeway it would sit around ambient, then would go cooler on a wot pull.. I'll see if I can dig up some logs

Thanks Matt

How can a cooler be below ambient temperature

Surely the best it could ever do is be equal to ambient temp?

This is such a big question :)

As far as I know, unless there's moisture involved (rain or water spray etc), an intercooler will never cool the charge air below ambient because an intercooler works by convection and the "cool" fluid in this instance of convection is the ambient air.

Okay I can't confirm temps getting below ambient (my bad).. But a quick look through some old logs and it would average between 20-35* IAT (day and night) with the lowest of the few I looked through being 19*, but I'm certain I have seen it cooler then that.. Anyway 50-60 for what I want to do is still unacceptable imo so in doing the research and calcs to get something more suited to my combo
