Mainly nulon 20-50 full synthetic... I'm starting to think that J@t is onto something when he says ford recommend mineral oil for a reason in these engines

Its got nothing to do with the oil. Your bearings have normal heavy load wear, not that bad. The ring lands on the cast stock piston are simply not designed for the loads we put on them. They will do that.

However that cam wear is a bit of a concern.

I was more concerned about the cam wear, there's also some signs of wear on the head from the cams... Might not be getting quite enough oil, or the wrong oil is going used, or the high spring pressure is causing excessive wear

Whose this J@T bloke lol what would he know hahaha

Wow joe for all that was wrong with it ya gotta hand it to ford for making a stocker stay together that well

Cracked ring lands is common with RB's and advanced timing ..... Could be something here but the stock ford piston is actually quite a good unit

I can only imagine what my rotating assembly looks like also after learning to tune lol ;)

Bent rod is a nice touch to ...... It does "seem" like the crow set has this flaw but as you said its been brought up many times now by many tune shops

Nice to see piks in your threads keep it up :)

Wow all that damage and the engine still hanging together .

It might be wise to freshen up those valve springs while your in there.

Just out of curiosity why wouldn't you go for a after market inlet manifold?

Is it cost ( I know we're not all made of money) or their not worth it at that power level.

It just seems your going to a lot of trouble with head mods and the standard inlet sounds like a problem.

I still don't get this cam wear prob, after all they are rollers, wouldn't think they need much lube regardless of oil type.

Great read and good luck with it all, cheers!

Definitely credit to the engineers

The springs are only a year or so old... I have a spring tester so I'll see how their going, and go from their..

Yea mainly cost, but essentially this is just a stepping stone setup... my real goal is to do a de-stroked monster haha, but being a young guy looking to buy a house, get married etc it's not realistic right now...

I've set a budget of $10-12k this is a really tight budget and most people getting this list of mods done through a shop would be looking at double that, it's all I can afford, so I'm trying to get the main components done and I can later add bolt ons like a manifold

The fg manifold only flows slighty higher but has a lot more even flow
